If you need to get a fix of awesome waterfalls, this is your place. Make it part of a day of waterfall viewing by hitting Pattison State Park as well. The multiple cascades of Amnicon Falls are breathtaking, especially at high flows like we experienced this past October. The light filtering through the trees and mist from the falls made for magical conditions. There are great hiking trails along the river and waterfalls, quaint footbridges that crisscross it all, and ample parking on either side of the river to access the trails. You can climb up and down plenty of rock walls and follow trails that will take you all the way to the north end of the park.

Hidden gem of the Wisconsin Northwoods, just 15 minutes from Duluth. Well marked from road. Busier in summer than winter, but winter visitors will get to see the falls covered with snow and ice, which is spectacular in itself. State Park pass required, but hour-long passes are available and sufficient if you just want to see the highlights and not hike any of the longer trails. During winter season a dropbox system is used for purchasing passes, which is easy enough to figure out if you read through and follow the directions.

I love the many waterfalls here, my most visited of this kind. I come here all four seasons. Not too much in Jan and Feb though. Early or late winter is cool with ice formations.

Small park, great for a day trip. The falls are beautiful. Just know that there are currently no flush toilets but they are building a new office that will have them. There are also no showers (for campers).
