Story

Anastasia State Park welcomes all visitors to enjoy over 1600 acres of rich and diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife. Relax in the shady hammock, kayak in the beautiful salt marsh, or swim in the Atlantic Ocean. Anastasia was acquired in 1949. We have 6 distinct natural communities within our park including the sand dunes, maritime hammock, and estuarine tidal marsh. While visiting, you may see various shore and marsh birds including the rosette spoonbill, great blue heron, and royal terns. You may also glimpse dolphins, lizards, butterflies, gopher tortoise, and raccoons. Some of our more elusive animals may include the Anastasia Island Beach Mouse and nesting sea turtles.

This lovely park is perfect for a day at the beach or a camping vacation. We took our kayaks here and went down the inlet which was perfect for us as newbie kayakers since the water was calm and pretty shallow. You can rent a kayak or paddle too right in the park. There is plenty of parking, a little gift shop/ grill area, and a playground so it is definitely a great place for families with small children. It's a beautiful place to go camping too, especially with downtown St. Augustine only about five minutes away and a bowling alley right down the street. This has been one of my families favorite spots for many years so if you haven't been yet you are definitely missing out!

I absolutely adore this place. It's totally stunning here. The scenery is peaceful and usually fairly quiet. Amenities include a ranger station, nice restrooms, picnic tables and a little store for small resources. Parking is $8 a car, last time I went. There's plenty of space though. There is also an option for camping, primitive or RV/camper. Long, winding walkways over the dunes, to the beach, make for picturesque views. Can't get enough of this place. It was the first place I ever took my daughter to the beach.

Beach and nature at it's best. Clean beaches clean park. Sites are level and shaded and shrubs give privacy. Water and electric at site and easy dump site with 3 lanes near exit. They recycle! Entertainment next door at Anastasia Ampetheater. Near to everything and still feels like out in nature with tree canopies, abundant wildlife.

This was our second camping trip to Anastasia. The first trip we tent-camped and this time we had a pop-up camper. There are several camping loops here and this time we were in the one closest to the beach. You could hear the ocean at night, but we were still probably 500 yards from the beach. The bathrooms were clean and the park staff was friendly. We went to the beach during the day and the kids enjoyed playing in the surf. You can bike/walk to the St Augustine Amphitheater and I imagine it would be a lot of fun going to a concert and then walking back to your site. Watch out for the raiding raccoons at night, but nothing unusual for camping. There are several playgrounds for the kids and plenty of room for biking and hiking. I'm sure this park will stay in our regular rotation of camping destinations.
