Note that they are cash only. We came here on a whim after a +45 minute wait quoted at Cafe Moulin down the street. Located down the stairs across the street from Starbucks, next to the Treat ice cream shop, is a quaint diner-esque cafe with two waitresses and limited seating space. I think there were four tables outside and less than ten inside, but there was no wait to be seated at 12:30PM on a Sunday. The waitstaff were friendly, immediately offering us coffee and providing water in a pitcher. In a party of four, we ordered a South West Omelet with American cheese, a Meat Omelet with bacon and Colby-Jack cheese, the Middle Bite scrambled eggs, and another omelet of some kind. Options for toast are white, wheat, or rye and options for meat are bacon, canadian bacon, breakfast sausage, or ground beef. Cheese options are listed in the menu and include American, Chedder, Colby-jack, Pepper Jack, Swiss, or Provolone. Food took a little while to get out, ~20-30 minutes, likely because it was being cooked fresh. Coffee refills are free and welcomely offered frequently, although they are limited to only standard creamer and sugar. The food itself tasted homemade and all dishes came out hot. I was surprised to see that the American cheese was clearly melted in slices, whereas my Colby Jack cheese was melted more evenly. The toast was perfectly toasted. Similar reviews were positively provided by my party for the hash browns and scrambled eggs. I wouldn't say they were anything special, but it wasn't overly greasy or buttery in the way that most other breakfast places are. Felt a lot more home-style. There are no surprise fees here and we were provided a paper bill with exact amounts $8.50 Middle Bite + 12.50 * 2 Omelet + 13.50 South West Omelet + $7.50 three coffees with refills for $54.50. The last interesting note is that the interior of the restaurant got pretty smoky. It is warm inside my glasses fogged up as I walked in. Nice on a cold Pittsburgh day, maybe not if it's hotter out. Food: 3/5 Average Service: 4/5 Positive, except for service speed Atmosphere: 2/5 Smokiness, cash only Overall: 3.5/5 Dietary restrictions: Nut friendly establishment, I don't think they really use anything with nuts.
Come to Angela's Cafe if you love good quality food. Menu is on the smaller side, if compared to the nationally known breakfast spots, but they have all your favorites. Everything is high quality and tastes fabulous. They also have phenomenal coffee that has the most satisfying flavor. Service is friendly and quick. The eggs are my favorite item on the menu. My test of quality is when the most basic item tastes amazing. That is their eggs. Just wonderful without covering them with cheese, salt, or gravy. The waffles are like fluffy and light clouds, irresistible! My critique is that the interior could use a spruce-up and I would love to have a nice crispy french fry instead of chips with the sandwich, and a pickle. The Ruben was delicious by the way!
We absolutely loved coming here and will be back again! The food was fresh and everything on my plate tasted delicious. This is a beautiful, homey, and down to earth family-run business that puts fresh, healthy food and ingredients above all else. We were greeted with so much kindness, and we had nothing but great things to say after leaving! :D
The food was very tasty! But I don’t think I’ll ever go again. One they don’t have a sign that says cash only at the door which wasn’t much of a problem it had an easy fix. Second as soon as we walked in we could see the sigh on the waiters face, they only had one other table seated at the time so it didn’t make much sense. Then when we received the order we had a misunderstanding while ordering and as soon as we asked for a change, which caused them to remake a sandwich, the waitress met us with anger and refused to acknowledge the mistake and made us pay for the extra meal which was also okay I just wished she was a little nicer about it. Overall though the cook in the back was an angel and met us with much kindness but the server was just rude and ruined the experience.
Great breakfast/brunch! You can really tell they use high quality ingredients, and can taste the result! Highly recommend the eggs and grits. Super cute Cafe with a great atmosphere and staff as well!
Came just to have something sweet, like a waffle. The staff were super accommodating considering I'd arrived pretty near to closing, and I had *bar none* the best blueberry waffle I've ever had. And I've had a *lot* of blueberry waffles. Just make sure to come with cash. There are ATMs nearby
Good experience, friendly staff, nice outdoor seating. Some menu items are no longer available. Be aware it is cash only & open 8:30am-3pm.
I really wanted to like this place but the owner made it impossible. We had a group of 4 and the food took over an hour to come out. When it did, 1 of the orders was wrong and it took another 20 mins to come out. The worst part was the owner told the waitress to tell us that we had to pay for both the wrong and right order. We asked to speak to the owner who then came out and screamed at my family in front of other customers. Upon stomping back to the kitchen the owner stated "lose this address" and continued insulting us from the kitchen so we could hear. We paid anything just to leave that place. The food was ok, the dining room was full of smoke. The wait staff is clearly taken advantage of. It was like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares
Wonderful breakfast cafe in the heart of Shadyside on Copeland Street across from Starbucks down the stairs
