Amtrak Anniston, AL

Story

Anniston is an Amtrak train station at 126 West 4th Street in Anniston, Alabama. It is served by the passenger train. The station was originally designed by Milo R. Hanker and built in 1925 for the Southern Railway, and was one of the last railroad-operated active passenger stations in the country, as the Southern Crescent (predecessor to the current Amtrak train) was still operated by the Southern well into the Amtrak era.In 2008, the city completed a full rehabilitation of the classical revival depot, primarily using funds obtained through the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Enhancements (TE) program.

I gave my 83 yr old disabled father a Christmas present to go to new Orleans on a train leaving anniston. I needed help getting my father on the train plus luggage and The train was 3hrs late. I bought a sleeper car that includes 2 meals. The male attendent refused to help me. Put my luggage in another sleeper car next to mine that had not been cleaned on a dirty bed. Then i was told the train ran out of food and had to wait till food was delivered from shonies.had no choice but to eat in our sleeper car not the dinning car. We were never offered a cup of coffee or a bottle of water. Coming home was the best! The attendents were amazing!!! Just like i remembered. We were 3hr delayed getting back. But well worth it!! Those attending to us were so amazing . fun and helpful with my dad. So i want to thank them . i wish i knew their names. By the way know one asked to see our tickets or our id fyi. Thats scary!

I have traveled extensively with Amtrak. Many long trips from Az. to PA. A couple of times to Georgia and most of the time the staff is great and other times the staff is horrible. I have a sizure disorder and have a service dog. He is a min pen Chauhuwa mix. He lets me know minutes b4 I know what's going on. I enjoy seeing the sights. Some engineers let you know what's coming up next. some don't say a word till u are stopped.

The signs posted say they open 1 hour - 30 minutes before a train arrives. Usually the station opens 3-5 minutes before a train, so I cannot even get dropped off by transport. You can't wait outside either, its a very bad part of town to be alone and outside. I really dislike how impromptu they are open opening only minutes before a train, but its better than the hassle of the Birmingham station. Please be more reliable in the future.
