Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum

About

The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum (AIMM) is home to WWII-era submarine USS Razorback (SS-394) and the tugboat Hoga, a National Historic Landmark.

Story

Hosting 20,000 annually from all 50 states and 81 foreign countries, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock, Arkansas, is most recognized for featuring Naval bookends to World War II. Hoga (YT 146) is the last surviving Navy vessel from the attack on Pearl Harbor and USS Razorback (SS 394) is one of 12 submarines present in Tokyo Bay during the formal surrender of Japan in 1945. Tours are provided aboard Razorback that served in World War II, the Vietnam War and the Cold War, as well as service in the Turkish Navy from 1970 until 2001. In 2004 she found her final home when the City of North Little Rock purchased the submarine from the Turkish government. The museum topside offers naval artifacts, diorama of Pearl Harbor and a gift shop that visitors can peruse at their leisure.

Absolutely stunning! Unfortunately there were homeless people sleeping on the bridge benches on our way across the bridge. Very nice people inside the museum. Will come back for sure! The sub marine was OUTSTANDING! Drive across the next bridge to get to the parking lot of the Museum

Totally awesome! My husband and I are both retired Navy and we had a terrific time touring the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum. My husband was also a Navy Submariner so the USS RAZORBACK was an added bonus to our visit. The volunteers at the museum provide excellent information during the tour and have done an amazing job refurbishing and maintaining these Navy vessels. I HIGHLY recommend everyone that is visiting Little Rock to take some time and visit this museum!

Really wanted to see this. However, after arriving late afternoon on a Sunday, we found the place closed due to rain. (Kind of ironic, for a Maritime Museum to close because it's wet!) To make matters worse we also noted they are regularly closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the summer. Not wanting to stay in town for 3 days to accommodate a visit, we had to forgo this one. It does appear it would be an interesting stop, however. Just not very convenient for people traveling through if its closed 3 days in a row.

If you like navy and warships you must go there. Amazing place! USS Razorback served in WWII. It's a submarine, it was in the harbor during Japanese signing their surrender. It has 12 kills? If I recall correctly. She is absolutely incredible. They also have USS Hoga that they're trying to preserve and save, a WWII tug and fire extinguisher boat that saved numerous ships after the Pearl Harbor attack

Attending a Veteran's Day ceremony, we took advantage of free guided tour. It was so crowded at the time and very rushed, so as not to miss the ceremony but interested us enough that we will return for the paid version soon. Great for all ages.
