Nice clean station with friendly staff, but the layout of the station is absolutely terrible. The outbound platform is so far away from the station, like close to a block away, so when I the train drops me off here, it's a longer walk to my car or vice versa, depending on where I park. The platforms should be across the tracks from each other, like every other train station I've been to. Not across the block. I literally have to dodge traffic in order to get to my car. What were the builders thinking when they decided to put the two platforms so far apart from each other? I remember the good old days when the old station was still in use and the platforms were right across the tracks from each other like a normal train station. This platform layout is especially not ideal during the winter. Apparently they wanted to preserve one of the original platforms for some reason. I understand preserving the historic old station house, but the platform wasn't really anything special. It was just a platform. I've actually heard many commuters are driving all the way to Elgin or Hanover Park to board the train because they don't want to use this station. Honestly, I don't blame them.

What were they thinking when they redesigned the platforms? Two platforms for a small station. No parking space on the inbound side. No wonder half of people from Bartlett are driving to hanover park to board the train. Will do the same during winter.

The staff are friendly. Really, if I were only basing this review on the ticket agent and the barista, this would be a five-star review, no questions. But since I'm reviewing the station, the staff is the only reason this isn't getting a one-star review. The station is designed wrong. Stupid doesn't even begin to cover the issues with the station. Eastbound passengers access the train on the East side of the railroad intersection. Westbound passengers access the train on the West side of the railroad intersection. Therefore, no matter where you park, you must cross the intersection as part of a round-trip trek. The problem (aside from Bartlett only building half a station) is that the intersection is pedestrian unfriendly in the East-West direction. Commuters must dodge traffic without the aid of crosswalks unless they divert their path. And the intersection is poorly designed for motor traffic. Years after its been there, I still witness people attempt to cross the tracks Southbound in the non-existent middle lane in hopes of turning left. Frankly, it's a surprise someone hasn't been seriously injured, yet. The parking situation is okay, but the payment process is a pain in the butt. The pay stations are sluggish and behave poorly when taking credit cards. Finally, though it does not figure into the rating I've given it, I'm a bit baffled that there's no clock attached to the station. This seems like an aesthetic oversight, and is hardly a worry, but itself seems indicative of the inattentiveness that went into designing this tribute to poor civil engineering.

I have been a commuter for a long time going out of Hanover Park. I have been using Hanover Park because there is a wait list for Permit Parking at Bartlett. I just got used to the station. Recently I have been pinching pennies and not using permit parking. Today I decided to try the Bartlett station. First impression is Great. 1. Daily parking close to station. I took the 7:4x am and still did not have to park far away. 2. Pay stations were newer and worked great with my credit card (it is a company transit debit card). 3. WOW the station is nice and clean and roomy with lots of seating. i did not interact with any employees. So far so good. On my return trip I learned that there is a 2nd platform... All I thought when we went past the train station was "crap this train does not stop at Bartlett." It did come to a stop and I got off. Came to the realization that my car was now a 5 minute walk away. I had High hopes of changing to Bartlett being as it is actually 5 minutes closer to me in Streamwood than Hanover. I actually timed from the Hanover station to Bartlett station 5 minutes. To my car 5 minutes(I could not figure out how to shorten this. I could choose to incur this on the inbound side instead). To Lake street 10 minutes. Could easily be longer. Long story short I am sticking with Hanover Park station. I get dropped off 5 minutes sooner than Bartlett. Parking is at worse a 1 minute walk. The time for me to get to the same spot on Lake street as I would from Bartlett is 5 minutes. Making Hanover close to 10 minutes closer to home, on my way home. 2 things would make this station close to perfect. 1. move platform 2 by the train station instead of a block away. 2. There is only one way to get to the station from permit parking. That is West of the station. (So you have to walk past the station to the intersection to cross the tracks. They need to add a pedestrian crossing East of the station. Final thought: What a waste of what could be a near perfect train station.
