The variety of food here is great! I ordered the five spice chicken and it was delightful. This place offers many dishes that other Vietnamese restaurants in the area don't offer. The portions here are good, and the staff was very attentive.

Thought the Garlic Noodle with 5 Spice Chicken ($13.50) was just decent. It was alright, but didn't do much for me.

Enjoyed #35  Bun Thit ($10.95) with lemongrass beef much more.

Gave Ben Tre a try after loving Saigon City and being thoroughly disappointed at Tick Tock. Glad I did! Ben Tre's pho was excellent!

The broth flavor was excellent...great depth of flavor that is hallmark of quality and care in preparation. It was late in the evening when I went (literally last patrons to enter for the night), so while I think it might have been slightly watered down, I could tell the excellence within. The bowl price was just slightly high, but that goes for everything in the area. The portion was generous so relatively the value is just fine.

Was also pleasantly surprised by our appetizer: we'd never seen fried fish spring roll and gave it a shot. Fantastic!

Another excellent Vietnamese offering for the area. I personally enjoy the gruff service and minimalist decor of more "traditional" pho houses (e.g. Saigon City also in San Mateo), but if you'd prefer kind service and a more charming atmosphere, Ben Tre will not disappoint.
