Bicicleta y Comunidad (BiCi Co.) is a social enterprise of the Center for Latino Progress - CPRF. A community space, training center & shop for everyone.

Story

Storefront Hours - Monday - Friday, 3:30-5:30pm. The storefront is also open during DIY Hours.

- Mondays - Women's DIY Member Hours, 5:30-8:30pm

- Saturdays - DIY Member Hours, 1:30-5:30pm

The social enterprise known as BiCi Co. (Bicicletas y Comunidad) has three primary components. (1) Education and training, (2) Community bicycle workshop, and (3) our *future* Park Street storefront. The storefront is still in the planning stages, but our programs are up and running.

BiCi Co. is a teaching, membership model bicycle workshop. It is currently the only bicycle shop in a city of 120,000 residents where 35% of households are non-car owners. Access to parts, bike safety items, tools, and experts is a social enterprise of the Center for Latino Progress. Income from bicycle and part sales go back into the organization to pay for the space, staff, and community programs.

*** Current Programs ***

• Membership access to “DIY Member Repair Hours”. Our staff and volunteer mechanics enable DIY bike repairs with BiCi Co. tools and work stands. Members receive a 25% discount on bicycle parts and accessories.

• Earn-a-Bike Youth Program – After-school opportunities for teens to earn a bicycle. Learn about bike safety and mechanics, bicycle science, the economics and environmental impacts of transportation choices, along with Hartford’s rich history, and the significance of bicycles in Latino culture. The students fix up a donated bike for themselves, or repair their own bike.

• BiCi Co. Women’s Committee – Forming now to engage more women in safe and fun bicycle recreation and transportation. This team will be working on two initial projects. Women’s DIY Hours

• BIKE LIFE – HARTFORD! – April Spring Break event at Heaven Skate Park with pre-event bicycle safety courses for teens. Teens that take the class, get an up-cycled bicycle. Hartford is about that BIKE LIFE!
