At Booth Western Art Museum, a world-class experience awaits.
Visitors to this 120,000 square foot museum can See America’s Story - the land, the people, the struggles, the dreams, and the legends - in paintings, sculpture, photography and artifacts. As the second largest art museum in Georgia, the collection includes a wide variety of Western art, a unique collection of Presidential letters and photographs, and an extensive display of Civil War art. Artists such as Frederic Remington, Charles Russell and George Catlin are showcased in our American West Gallery – which serves as a great jumping off point to explore the rest of the collection which includes mostly contemporary artists like Nelson Boren, Thom Ross, Ed Mell and others. Our premiere collection of contemporary Civil War art houses work by some of the leading historical artists of all time including Mort Künstler and Don Troiani.
Located just north of Atlanta on I-75 in Cartersville, Georgia, Booth Museum is an architectural showcase and houses the largest permanent exhibition space for Western art in the country. In addition to housing more than a dozen galleries of the museum’s permanent collection, three temporary galleries feature 10 to 12 exhibitions per year. The Museum also houses a research library, hands-on children’s area, gift shop and Café – serving breakfast and lunch.
In addition to Seeing America’s Story through art, visitors to Booth Museum may experience much of America’s heritage through our annual events, lectures and exhibition openings. Each March the Southeastern Cowboy Gathering features traditional Cowboy food, music and poetry; Civil War Comes Alive!, held each April, highlights what life was like for the soldiers – on both sides – during our nation’s greatest conflict; and each October, the Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium features Native American dancing, gun fight reenactments, art history lectures, a Western marketplace and much more. The museum also welcomes visiting artists and scholars to speak at monthly lectures and at exhibition openings held throughout the year.
