Story

A visual artist and painter, with a background in film and theatre, Don Baker is melding his talents and lifelong love of flowers to create stunning natural and organic floral designs. As owner of Brunswick Town Florist for the past 12 years, he is helping his clients take their designs to the next level and to set the stage – beautifully.

“My theater and fine arts background help me in knowing what is dramatic,” said Baker. “As a director, lighting, set design, costumes and wardrobe are all key components and I've always set the stage with a visual eye. As a painter and visual artist, floral design came naturally,” said Baker. “It was learning how to treat the flowers so that they would live, that took a bit longer to learn.”

“I like an organic, less structured sense of design and have looked for other artists to help me convey that sense,” said Baker. “We always try to listen to what the client wants – we can create or duplicate anything.”

“We meet with people to get a sense of what they want, and then, if they want, guide them, offer suggestions, and help them make their vision a reality.”

“Theatre is a communal art – you have a lot of artists and visions working together,” said Baker. “I feel like having done theater makes me better able to work collaboratively with clients – I really enjoy it.”
