Having just recently been to the State History Museum in my home state of Washington, I was excited to see what Texas....where everything is bigger and supposedly better...had in store. Unfortunately...it wasn't much. We wandered through the exhibits pretty quickly and then were left looking around saying "where's the rest?". They did have a cool temporary exhibit on video games which was fun because you could play all sorts of games that I grew up on. But, that was just a temporary exhibit, and to be fair, I could play all those games at home.

Great museum that explains Texas history from the start. Plenty to read, and enough highlighted to do an overview tour. Great changing exhibit on "games" and electronics. Very cool visuals to go with the words. Really enjoyed the top floor. The sunken boat that they dug up on the 1st floor is interesting too.

A very well presented history of Texas. La Belle on the first floor is a nice lead in to the genesis of the museum. The exhibits on the second floor do a great job telling the story of Texas. We also enjoyed lunch at the cafe. The museum was close to closing time by the time we got to the game center on the third floor. Give yourself plenty of time. It's worth it. Also, admission is free the first Sunday of the month.

Had a grand old time while here picked up some Texas paraphernalia in the lobby and saw some pretty cool exhibits including at the time, the gaming history exhibit which was pretty fun and they had a few demos and what not. Really nice, informative, well maintained museum! While there check out the food court for a quick bite and head out to the balcony on a really nice day for some great photo ops of the Capitol building!

We visited during the Free First Sunday event and were treated very poorly. I felt so embarrassed as there were countless guests that were obviously out of town visitors. It was 5:04pm and a very rude woman came into the exhibit room that we were in and told everyone to "Get out". Not politely at all, she proceeded to brush people with her hand motions to get out as she yelled at the top of her lungs for people "not to look back, not to look at her but to keep moving" She yelled the entire time that the crowd was trying to make their way down the stairs. She continued to shout and say rude things to guests as they tried to make their way down the stairs. As we reached the bottom I heard a woman complaining to another older gentleman who stood at the door. His reply was "I don't see why ya'll are complaining you got in for free!" To which I replied, "Just because it's free does not give you the right to be rude to people!" This museum should be ashamed of themselves for treating people this way! There were countless families with small children who looked frightened and confused.
