Our family stayed here perhaps 15 times as our son was growing up. It's been a few years now, but ownership hasn't changed, so I presume the quality of the experience hasn't either. We kept returning because it's incredibly quiet and low key. From the outside you can see that it's a converted 1930's motor lodge, so there's kind of a nostalgic vibe if you remember that era of motor travel. Inside, however, it's entirely modern, with tasteful, unostentatious decor, and large rooms that are a vestige of the era it was built. There's a central library of movies which are lent out free, and each room has a player. The pool is well-maintained, and surrounded by a generous area of lawn that provides good tearing around space for young kids. In another homage to the Inn's pedigree, it has a shuffleboard court, complete with historic cracks in the concrete surface which don't seem to interfere with game play. If you're in Pacific Grove for the quiet, the location is ideal. It's a six minute walk from downtown for breakfast (take a pass on the Inn's continental breakfast), a short walk or bike ride to the tide pools, and the Inn adjoins THE butterfly grove. If you catch it at the right time of year that, alone, is worth the trip.

We stayed in the family suite #24. The grounds smell of pet urine and the room smells like someone smeared poop all over the carpet. Bed was clean and comfortable. I would have slept well if the smell wasn't so bad. It was so strong even after spraying Lysol all around and never faded. If you can put up with the smell of rotten colon, then this is the place for you. Had to be honest.

We really loved staying here. The room was wonderful, vaulted ceiling, clean white linens, and a fire place. The staff was very nice and helpful. The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary was practically on the property. The only problem we had was the walls are very thin we could hear everything from the room next door. But, even with that we would stay again.

Cozy place, huge rooms, clean and attractive. Just steps from the butterfly sanctuary. 15 minute walk (3 minute drive) to the shops and restaurants of Pacific Grove's main street, or to Lover's Point and the gorgeous seashore there. A really great deal in the winter months, when there is less fog and fewer people. Staff is very helpful.

Great spacious rooms, fantastic location. Breakfast however could be better - only cereals, toasts and pancakes. Otherwise highly recommend.
