1st time here, I'm not an expert on Filipino food but I do love food and know the difference between something delicious and something bad. I have to say I really enjoyed my meal. The employees were awesome, very kind and patient with us. The food was really good, we picked 2 of the combo plates and got a few drinks. My kids who are very picky eaters enjoyed every bite. They have a nice variety of dishes and desserts. Restaurant was clean and we felt very comfortable eating here.
Great choices of Filipino dishes. Excellent Service and the price is very reasonable. I will definitely come back
My partner called several times on 12/21 to place an order for Christmas. When she finally got someone on the phone, she placed her order, gave her phone number and cc number. The person who took the call never even bothered to put the order in, never gave a confirmation number. Had to learn that the hard way - coming in to pick up our order that didn’t even exist. Update as of 12/31 - the owner Glecy has since made amends, and we are forever grateful.
I've been a fan of lumpia since I was in the P.I. many years ago. But I'm always disappointed when the don't have banana catsup. They have it. Yumm
It is as close as you can get to Southern California goodness when it comes to Filipino food. Too bad they ran out of chicharon. I wish we had more of these "pick up" turo turo style places. I always come back for their sisig, bicol express and as I say, their chicharon.
I went there because they were supposed to be an AYCE BUFFET. They are not. The prices seem a little on the high side but the food is okay. The workers do not speak English very well so it is not easy for them to answer you when you ask them a question. I would recommend to this Restaurant that they put labels on their food dishes. I have seen people walk in and right out of Filipino Restaurants because they don't have the time to find out what kind of Food was being offered. Seems like most Filipino Restaurants do not take the time to label their their food dishes which is a shame because I believe they would make a lot more money if they did.
Cabalen has always been a favorite resto of ours! My family left California years ago and we finally were able to visit again recently and we made sure to stop by Cabalen. Food selection is great, always freshly cooked. Their sisig is a must try!! And of course their buko pie and caramel cake are the best!! And also the titas/manangs are accommodating and friendly! Dining area is open now!
First time going to this location and usually I love CABALEN at South San Francisco location. When I found out they have a Vallejo location, I had to check it out. I got the Afritada and chicken adobo for two item and rice combo. The chicken adobo tasted like its been cooked for how many days already. I only ate one piece of the chicken and the rest I throw it away because it was unsavory. As for the Afritada, it was unpleasant to eat as well. Afritada is my favorite filipino dish and I cannot believe I had to waste it. It was really awful. Usually, afternoon is the best time to get filipino food because that is when it's newly cooked and ready to serve to people. But from what I saw the buffet style food were really dry and unappetizing to look at. I was so disappointed that I don't think I can really recommend people to go here for lunch time.
Went out of our way to check out this place. Got there 10:30 but no more fried rice and egg. How can you not have egg and fried rice?? Food not really that good and spectacular. It's a good thing they have the crispy jeprox fried fish but other than that - well To sum it up- not recommended. You're better off going to another place if you want buffet style food. I'm expecting good food as I've been going to Cabalen Hercules for years now. And in all honesty they have good food maybe in Hercules only But this buffet at Vallejo - doesn't live up to their standard. Again i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Good Filipino Food at a great price. One Tip for weekend buffet breakfast: Go before 10:30 am, sometimes they run out of Champorado if you arrive too late.
