I give this restaurant a 1 star review because both the service and food were not up to the price charged. I came in with two friends just looking for a light meal after shopping and I remember coming in when I was younger for mac and cheese, so we gave it a try. At first I was a little surprised as I looked at the menu for mac and cheese and I couldn't find anything other than the small baked portion for about 5 dollars, but I already craved the normal mac and cheese I remembered. So when the waitress came around I asked if they still had it and how much it would be, she said they could still make it and it was $10.99. I thought $10.99 was a bit expensive but because I had such fond memories I thought why not. Once we received our food, the mac and cheese was similar to what I remember but there was hardly any sauce and the noodles ended up dry, essentially I thought it wasn't worth the money but I was willing to take the hit because I wasn't going to make a big deal over personal preference. However, once we got the bill it came to $12.99, which may not be much of a difference but to a high schooler watching their budget before college, I was upset that I was charged extra without an explanation. When I asked if she could simply drop the two dollars extra I was told the prices must of changed and a simple sorry was exchanged. I could go on about the rest of the experience for our whole group, but I stuck to mine and needless to say I probably won't be coming back. If I'm told one price I expect to see the same on the bill, but the fact it wasn't mentioned when she set down the bill felt like she was attempting to sneak it by me. I think if it were any other adult customer the two dollars would have easily been dropped and maybe even the whole meal because of the whole fiasco, but the unwillingness to do something for a younger teenage customer felt demeaning as if I wasn't worth the time or was simply a complaining child. From the moment we sat down the waitress seemed hesitant towards our group compared to the pleasant attitude she shared with other customers we observed. I hope this restaurant reevaluates their standards for equal serving amongst all customers no matter their age and checks the price in the system before telling the customer, because long story short I would not have said yes to the pasta at $12.99.

Good food and they have a really good customer service attitude. You feel like a VIP without them getting too obsequious. I had a great bowl of pea soup with the quinoa-spinach salad.

I went off of the staff recommendations for what was best and most popular and it was okay. The staff is good, the establishment is pleasant and clean. The bloody Mary was good. The food was greasy and I wasn't impressed. I couldn't finish the avocado roll. The BBQ chicken pizza is better than Domino's; it's not worth the price though. I probably won't go back.

While I do enjoy the pizza, the service was sub-par and the environment was very obnoxious. We interacted with 5 different service people (which is fine) but they got two different items wrong and had to re-deliver twice. Not the biggest problem but we ended up shaking our heads when it happened again. Good enough pizza but I'm not going out of my way to come here.

My wife and I decided to come up to Barnes and Noble today (9/3) and decided to get some food before heading home to Salem, and we had never been to California Pizza Kitchen before but decided to give it a shot. Man, I am impressed, upon being sat down our server asked if we had been here before and we said no, so she explained the layout of the menu and got us some drinks. A few minutes later, the Kitchen Manager came over with a plate of guacamole and chips to try since it was our first time in. When we ordered our food, we only had to wait about 10 minutes and everything was exactly as we asked. Needless to say my wife and I were extremely impressed and I will be coming back anytime I'm in the area.
