Story

The Castle Hotel and Bar began as the gathering place for quarry workers, ranchers, and travelers during the 1890's.

Around 1910, The Castle Hotel and Cafe became the stopover for travelers between Denver and Colorado Springs. A decade later, a dance hall was built in the bar and it served as a community center during the roaring 20's, depressing 30's and early 40's. Throughout the years, The Castle Cafe and Lounge remained the geographical and social heart of the Castle Rock area.

Open for selected lunch hours, dinner service and all-day Sunday, Castle Cafe is an unfussy southern pub serving World Famous Fried Chicken and other delicious American fare.

Always a great place to eat. My favorite is the fried chicken and there is the option to split a plate which is plenty for two adults. Plenty of other options such as salmon and chicken friend steaks. Burgers are great. Appreciate the local flavor of a non-chain establishment. Nice bar area to catch a drink while waiting on a table.

I have given 4 stars for the atmosphere, history and service. The food would have rated a 3 not necessarily bad but not great. The chicken fried steak was somewhat bland and the vegetables were on par with frozen from a bag. For comparison Black Eyed Pea is cheaper and had more flavor. The menu was very limited. The bread was good and I liked the queso appetizer. The portions size was good. I'm not sure I would go here again but as the ratings from others suggest a different experience I might be willing to try.

Reasonably priced place in the heart of the older section of Castle Rock Co. Started with a complimentary basket of yummy house made light and fluffy bread. Pulled pork was moist and delicious with a sweet BBQ sauce. The brisket sandwich was so tender I was able the cut the sandwich with a butter knife. The accompanying BBQ sauce was a much more traditional savory sauce. Fries were done well. I chose the coleslaw, one of my things, very well done IMO, and also house made. By all means if you in the area and hungry stop in. I am a big eater and was famished when we sat. I ended up taking 1/2 the sandwich to go.

We wish we could stop here more often. Be prepare to wait for 20-30 min for the fried chicken. Each piece is pan fried per order and you will beg for more. The chicken was amazingly crispy and juicy, yet not oily. They were flavorful with a good balance of homemade style mash and veggie. The waitstaffs are friendly and fast. The restaurant is a great reflection of small town USA. It does have a little bit of a wait, so try to get there before lunch time.

Great little local place. The chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes are solid. The chicken noodle soup is well seasoned. You get fresh homemade dinner rolls that are to die for. I love this place for homestyle cookin!
