I have a medical degree and do not think the standard of care was suitable for the presenting illness. I was seen as an office visit as follow-up for an emergency room visit for acute onset bleeding colitis.  After leaving the ER, I was still experiencing significant pain and spasms 2 days later, due to the acute illness.   I signed up for the first open visit with Centers for GI Health, which happened to be with a physicians assistant.  After explaining that I had been having 48 hrs of significant and painful sigmoid colonic spasms (hourly), I was first told there was nothing they could provide or do.  I insisted she discuss my case with Dr. Nam (the physician in the office). She returned with a prescription for a topical cream (to treat internal spasms).  I was not allowed to see the physician and there was no discussion of potential pain medications or antispasmodics which could be tried to temporarily alleviate the pain.  I was told if the cream did not work, I should admit myself back to the ER (at a cost of several thousand dollars).  After getting no suitable solution from this practice I immediately went to my primary care physician, where we discussed potential medicines.  I was prescribed a different pain medicine from my primary care physician and within 14 hrs was significantly better.  Thankfully my primary care physician was able to address the issue where a referral practice could not.  I am, however, still being billed for their "services".
