This was my first time coming to the Chicago Kernel. The customer service I experienced was awful. They really do not have a lot of diversity. I called the phone number trying to find the place but the man speaking could barely speak ANY English. I decided to go in to the store isntead. As soon as I walked in, I was not greeted nor was I noticed. I was standing around for a couple minutes until this Indian man finally noticed me. Which I am surprised I didn’t walk out the place right there and then. I then asked the man to sample the popcorn which was very STALE, STALE, STALE. I told him the popcorn was not good to which he looked at me with a negative attitude. He was getting very defensive when I claimed it was not up to my standards. He said he was the manager which nobody asked him. He was very unprofessional and disrespectful towards me a potential consumer. I do not recommend anyone to come here. The owners as the “manager” are very ignorant and unprofessional. Rumor has it that this location carries rats. Save your money go to Garret’s which is located down the street of Michigan ave. I refuse to ever come to location or even mention it to anyone. Awful customer service

My review is based upon a past experience, but it was certainly 5 star ready when managed by Mr. Washington. I've not had it since new management, but I would hope they have not changed the flavor of the popcorn or the courtesy and consistency of the service

I used to really like this place, but the service is very poor now. I'm an African American woman and I am so tired of being treated like I don't deserve good service. The man didn't even thank me for my business, and when I said to him aren't you going to say thank-you,? He looked at me like I was stupid and didn't deserve a thank-you. Something really needs to be done about this. I'm going to look into it. Oh yeah, and he said he was that manager. He is an Indian man. This makes me so sad. And I spent $20.00 in there. Isn't that worth a thank-you and a smile?

I've enjoyed the popcorn for years, but the popcorn I purchase today was STALE STALE & STALE. Tastes like it was made yesterday. Twenty dollars for two large bags of popcorn and both were chewy not crispy. I hope this isn't another business that goes under due to a drop in quality.
