I was only there once to attend a service; the architecture is typical Protestant Anglican of the period; sparse, whitewashed, with individual family pews. Nothing special except that George Washington worshiped here...although the church now seems to want to remove that historical reference now. Unless you plan to go there to attend Sunday services you can probably skip it. Although the garden is nice place to stop and get some shade in the late spring/early summer.

So sad the church is giving in to humanism. We have the greatest heritage of any other nation on Earth. We cannot place our morals on people who lived 200+ years ago and longer. There has been a lot of slavery in the past, all over the world. Please get educated! This country has done more for it's citizens than any other. And without George Washington, we would be pledging allegiance to the Queen and the Church of England or worse!

I am deeply saddened that your congregation would remove a reminder of the greatest general that ever was and our first President. I would love to sit in this spot. You religion is about saving souls, George Washington saved lives. He lifted the early colonists to independence, including the Freeman AND Slave. It is an unfortunate practice we all agree, but destroy the remnant of George Washington should be illegal, if it is not. That seat is a National Treasure. Robert E Lee, on the other hand, was a traitor the United States of America and I am a southerner. If you could alter your decision to remove Lee and NOT Washington I would and many others could understand this decision. I can only imagine all Americans in today's world must be respectful of President George Washington. Tears...

As a former parishioner, choir member and some one who got married in this magnificent church, I am very distressed that the Vestry has yielded to some liberal crazies and agreed to dishonor our first President. George Washington has been an honored past member for nearly 250 years and now a few righteous liberals think he is offensive. What idiocy! I feel similarly about Robert E. Lee. I have been proud to say that I was a member of Christ Church for over 25 years and I would be again if the Vestry restores the honor paid to George Washington -- right now I am embarrassed.
