A Community of Faith, Hope, & Love Serving as the Hands of Christ.
Founded in 1804, Christ Church United Methodist is a 1250 member United Methodist congregation located in downtown Charleston, West Virginia at the edge of a historic part of town called "The East End." Although we are a "downtown" church, recent study concluded that we are a "regional" church with some members traveling upwards of 90 miles round-trip to attend worship and church functions. The average age of the congregation is 50 years of age.
We offer three Sunday worship services: a 'contemporary' service at 9:00am, and traditional services at 9:45 and 11:00am.
The main church, dedicated in 1911, was destroyed in a fire in 1969. All that remained was the Gothic bell tower and the Christian education building, which contains an architecturally traditional chapel. The main worship space called a "Centrum" (designed by renowned church architect Ed Sovik) was completed in 1973 and combines both modern and traditional architectural elements.
The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
