Fairmont City Hall houses the governing body for the City of Fairmont, as well as the departments of City Manager, Planning, & City Clerk.
Fairmont is a city of approximately 18,700 residents and is located directly off Interstate 79 and along the banks of the West Fork River and the Tygart Valley River, which then form the Monongahela River. Fairmont is known as the home of the first Father’s Day service, for Country Club Bakery, the home of the original pepperoni roll and as being the hometown of Olympic gymnast, Mary Lou Retton.
Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community and Technical College are a part of our community and have approximately 4,500 students. The Pierpont campus is expanding into Downtown Fairmont and has become part of a revitalization effort of that area.
Located in the I-79 Technology Park is the NASA IV&V facility as well as other technology-based businesses. Pierpont Community and Technical College is in the process of building a new facility in the park as well.
The City of Fairmont has a professional, full-time Fire Dept., Police Dept. and Public Works Dept.
Fairmont has several parks including Morris Park, a family-oriented place to picnic or to take children to play. The walking/driving area around the park is over a mile long and has playgrounds, picnic pavilions, public restrooms and a frisbee golf course.
