Welcome to Cliffhanger, where climbing is for everyone! Open to all skill levels, with courses and sessions for both adults and children/youth. Bouldering, top ropes, indoor/outdoor courses, and a friendly team of passionate climbers!

Story

Cliffhanger's professional, certified, and friendly team has been teaching people to climb since 1993. We offer courses for both beginner and experienced climbers, as well as children and youth. Climbing has proven benefits for the body and the mind, and it's a great team building exercise. We've hosted countless group climbing sessions for friends, families, office parties, birthdays, and sports teams - including the NHL's Vancouver Canucks! During the spring and summer months, we also organize outdoor climbing courses for all skill levels in Squamish, British Columbia. This is a really great climbing gym. Not only is it close to my house, but offers some great service from some hilarious and active staff. As a member of their climbing team, I come here twice a week and I can say that the staff put in a lot of effort to make rock climbing enjoyable and fun.

The Bad:

They do not allow you to take a lead test if it is your 1st time at the gym. They will charge you twice, a Top Rope Belay test + Lead Test on 2 separate occasions.This is the only rope gym (edge,base5,oval) that does this double charge. 

They do not have dedicated lead areas in the gym, meaning that if it is busy, lead climbing (and lead tests) cannot be done. Lead tests may be "booked" ahead of time, but there is 0 guarantee it will occur. Unless you come at obscure times of the day (super late/during the day), this is not the place for lead climbing. 

There is often no staff members available that are trained to administer lead tests. When there is, they are still unavailable because they have to man the front desks. Issues with untrained staff as well as lack of general staff seems to be a re-occurring issue for this gym. 

The Good:

The routes seem to be more technical than Base5 in my opinion, fun, varied, and challenging makes up for the short walls. 

They have 6 auto belays, which is great to run laps or if you find yourself partner less.

Terribly crowded on mid-week afternoons, but otherwise great climbing gym. Cool staff, various routes, only few auto belay possibilities so bring a climbing partner!

Great atmosphere, plenty of variety in the routes, although I'd question some of the grading choices... Reasonable prices and helpful staff make Cliffhanger a good place to climb.

Really enjoy training here. Lots of routes available as well as self belay routes. There is a bouldering wall if you are without a belay partner that day. the change rooms feature lockers and a shower.
