Cold Spring Tavern

Story

Cold Spring Tavern was established as a stagecoach stop in 1865. Originally known as the "Cold Spring Relay Station", it was a place to change horses and allow travelers to rest and enjoy a meal. The tavern is located 20 minutes north of Santa Barbara, California in Cold Spring Canyon, which is about a mile off Highway 154 along Stagecoach Road (in the San Marcos Pass area). The tavern serves steak, lamb, venison, duck, and rabbit, and kangaroo.RecognitionThe tavern was chosen as the BEST place for a Romantic Getaway and The Santa Barbara Independent called it "pure MAGIC!" They have been noted as one of the few restaurants serving bear.

I love this place! I've been coming to Cold Spring for years... They also do an awesome Thanksgiving dinner... I usually ride up on weekends, as it's a cool mixed crowd of bikers, locals, and tourists with live music. The food is great and they're known for their BBQ tri-tip sandwiches.

Charming quaint little place serving exotic meats for reasonable prices. Separate building housed the bar and served tri tip beef sandwiches. Large crowds when we went, but self service kept a reasonable flow of food. Limited seating inside, and lots of shared seating st picnic benches outside. Parking was along the roadside for a half mile in each direction, but vey little other traffic than for the tavern. Grounds were large enough to support a fire district fundraiser sale and raffle in the morning and a fair sized wedding party arrived in three large buses in the afternoon. Live band played the whole time we were there and our party of four visited comfortably for several hours. We will be going back.

Open since 1886, the Cold Springs Tavern is easily the oldest restaurant in Southern California. It's been open for 131 years for a good reason: the food is amazing and the atmosphere is unlike anything else in the area- it's true Old West. On weekend days, the tavern serves as a popular biker stop for tri tip sandwiches, beer and live music. At night, the tavern is a romantic getaway from Santa Barbara. Regardless of your age or the type of vehicle you drive, definitely stop at the Cold Springs Tavern if you have the time.

Historical venue with good specialty tri-tip sandwiches (with freshly bbq-ed chunks of meat) and bikers spot. Better visit on Sunday when there are live shows from several bands and lots of people around - feels like nice old festival. And the road to the tavern itself is magnificent! Dig those views!
