Excellent place for a family to go and see the history of The Dalles and surrounding areas. They have exhibits for all levels, and a fun little gift shop. Prices are not too high and the most expensive admission was $9. Children 5 and under are free making it a great thing for little kids on an outing.

My three children love going to the discovery center! They play dress up in the children's section and look for their favorite exhibits. Do try to plan your visit so that you can see the raptors. My five year old son loves learning about the birds and peppers me with questions. "What's the difference between monocular vision and binocular vision? Why does mouse pee glow blue to kestrels? Where do eagles love?" There's a very pleasant picnic area right outside, and stunning views of the gorge. From the center you can access the riverfront trail and walk all the way to the other end of town, if you feel like a seven mile hike! The trail is quite lovely though.

This is a must see! We're from Portland and it's worth the drive. The exhibits are amazing, interesting and well developed. Great for the entire family. The kids loved the interactive exhibits and the scavenger hunt. The exhibits are full of information and history. Just love learning about the history of this area. Able to wander around for hours. The area and facility is beautiful and maintained. Trails nearby and the views are awesome. Able to stop in for a quick visit or spend hours learning and relaxing, it's worth the drive. It's impressive.
