I wanted to go to this zoo for years, and in August 2015, my dream came true. When I went, it initially wasn’t everything I thought it was going to be, but looking back on it, it was. This zoo has beautiful exhibits, my favorites are the African Savanna, Asian, Australian, and African Rainforest. I also love how the exhibits are themed. The Asian exhibit has architecture you would find in parts of Eastern Asia, as with the African exhibit having a strong African vibe. I like when a zoo can do that. People from all over the world come to see this zoo, and it deserves all the love it gets. I hope that I can come back some day.

This is a fantastic zoo. There are creatures from all over the world both land and aquatic in great, easily viewable enclosures. 
I’d definitely recommend visiting during the summer when everything is open, as a lot of the outdoor enclosures are closed down during the winter (it is Ohio after all), but the slower season can definitely be fun as well as you can take your time and not feel rushed by other people. 
The walk in areas are awesome too, like the kangaroo walk and the aviary in the Australian/Island zone.

With a small zoo in my hometown, the amount of animals to see is breathtaking! The exhibits are decorated very nicely and I definitely feel like I'm actually there in the africa exhibit (the summer sun helps the vibe!). There are many nice places to eat and the aquarium is great too. Only downside I'd say is the very sad train ride that you couldn't see any animals on! Not to mention its very short. Great experience overall!

I read an article a few years ago that said the Columbus zoo and San Diego zoo compete for top zoo in the country! Really? Ohio has the world's best roller coasters, and potentially zoo as well? So, we thought we'd look into a road trip from Fort Wayne, IN. Turned out that our local zoo membership was in the "reciprocal zoo" program, giving us a deep discount (half off I think?) at the gate in Columbus. Wow, are we glad we made the trip! This zoo is absolutely incredible! At 580 acres, this zoo delivers tons to see and do! It has over 7000 animals! There's an attached water park AND amusement park! Our kids especially loved touching the stingrays at Stingray Bay. One special note...we noticed immediately the special design and attention to detail with the animal habitats. They didn't at all seem inhumane or uncomfortable. The animals all seemed happy and natural. The engineering and research required for this must've been well planned.  If you're planning a trip from out of town like we did, please take some extra time to research and plan all the available attractions, and budget as many in as you possibly can. This was the zoo experience of a lifetime. We can't wait until next time!

Such a great bunch of volunteers and staff. I was volunteering with my Boy Scout troop to help with the dismantling of the Wildlights displays. Fun time and everyone there was so polite. After our shift, we were able to see the animals and exhibits. Always a great time at the zoo! I enjoyed the manatees.
