Community Warehouse

About

Community Warehouse offers affordable new home improvement materials, household goods, and employs background-challenged people in the City of Milwaukee.

Story

Community Warehouse is a non-profit, faith-based organization. We offer affordable home and facility improvement materials to individuals, businesses and organizations in Milwaukee’s Community Block Grant Development Zone. Our goal is to partner with foundations, non-profits, builders, contractors, manufacturers and retailers to provide the resources that are needed for rebuilding Milwaukee’s under-resourced communities, resulting in significantly improved quality of life in our neighborhoods. Our members purchase home improvement materials at our store for a low handling fee.

We employ background-challenged individuals who want to make a positive contribution to their families and community. To expand this aspect of our dual-purpose mission, Community Warehouse launched Milwaukee Working, our contract services division which provides full-time employment opportunities and training in Milwaukee’s Central City for under-employed, never employed and background challenged individuals who are seeking work in an effort to turn their lives around but find it very difficult to get employed due to lack of experience or past criminal records.

We’re offering hope and changing lives one household at a time.

If you go in thinking old school outlet mall where everything is super discounted you'll be fine. It's a little weird with their workers taking your stuff and putting it apt by check out. Most of the workers are volunteers. And they have a different system works for them. It's a non-profit. It's an outlet. The point is you get new stuff at around half price or less. Take advantage of what they've got and go in knowing what you want. Then you'll enjoy it completely

I went there looking for a screen door and the Manager I think he said his name was Nate I know he does the hiring he has great customer service skills!!! He stopped what he was doing and helped us tremendously. We end up buying a door!!!! Great place everyone was so nice and welcoming and very helpful

Stopped in to get 2 windows and decided to open one of the boxes to make sure it had the correct measurements etc. Managers decides to start yelling across the store, we tried to explain that we would buy them and he kicked us out.I open stuff up at Menards and have never had anyone tell me anything! I don't think that's any way to treat customers and will never go back.

Be aware greedy scam artists, trucking companies don't do any business with them. Don't deliver to them, they will try to scam your insurance!!!!!!!!!

I was sent there to volunteer by the FSET program as a prerequisite to getting FSET and ResCare to send me to semi-trucking school for free. They made me sign paper work that basically stated that if I get hurt it's not their fault nor workers comp's and worked me to the bone. They had religious meetings in the morning that I did not agree to attend because I'm not religious or even been brought up in a Christian home. They had two employees that were basically street thugs that boasted about their criminal exploits and would insult and threaten me and other FSET program participants with physical violence when the two main supervisors (Ray and Rodney) were not around. These people take advantage of free labor sent to them by FSET or ResCare or whatever the name of the silly program that is designed to rip tax payers off and not help people that are desperately looking for jobs or job training. I'm not some bum, criminal, drunk or drug addict. I wasn't sent there by a probation officer. I was just some guy that lost his job 6 months prior and applied for food stamps and wanted to take advantage of state funded programs that I've spent years paying into. If you shop there, remember one thing: the reason their items are dirt cheap is because majority of the people you see on the floor are forced volunteers. It's basically a labor camp disguising as a charitable religious organization that enjoys a "tax free" status.
