While a trip to the DMV is a necessary evil (death, taxes and DMV), the Norwalk DMV has added a pre-information line that gets you a ticket and forms to fill out while you wait. There are also nifty colored lines in the floor that tell you where to go. It seems to go quicker but if you really want quick, show up 5 min before they close. If you want to spend your day there, show up Sat morning with everyone else.

Avoid coming here at all costs. The reason there’s always a line out the door is simple, the state of CT is cheap and cut back and closed all the other DMVs for 20 miles in any direction. People from about 6-8 towns are expected to come to Norwalk to get their REQUIRED PAPERWORK in order to keep their licenses and cars. It doesn’t matter what time you get here, if you’re like most people that unfortunately work during the week and during the day, you will be screwed. The average wait time to get into the building is close to 45mins and even then, you better hope you got here early enough that they don’t lock you out once they’ve “closed” for the day. Get a AAA membership if you have to do anything license change related and honestly, you may wanna consider just getting a brand new car from a dealership because they can register the car there for you.

Average time here is 1-3 hours depending on what your going to handle. But be prepared to wait. Also check online because some services can be handles online.

HORRIBLE! The worst DMV ever. You ask 2 people 1 simple question and you will get 2 different answers. Gave me the wrong information TWICE. The staff is extremely unprofessional, rude and aggressive. The reason the lines are so long is because the staff doesn't know what they are doing so they give people the run around hoping to feed them enough useless information that they will just give up and leave. The answers they give to the majority of the peoples questions is to call the DMV call center. Save yourself from the stress, do not go to Norwalk DMV.

Worst DMV ever! Always endless lines and the people working here are not helpful at all except for the lady near the door.
