O Consulado Geral em Boston foi estabelecido pelo Governo de Cabo Verde em 1977, dois anos após a Independência Nacional com o propósito de proteger e defender os interesses do Estado e dos seus nacionais em toda a área da sua jurisdição consular, assim definida: todos os Estados norte-americanos, e o Canada, com excepção de Maryland, Virgínia, North Carolina, e Delaware, cobertos pela Embaixada de Cabo Verde em Washington DC.
