A very reasonably priced activity for the whole family that is also an educational opportunity. The crater is from a formerly active volcano that creates gemstones. With campsites and other activities in the park, you could spend more than one day here. It doesn't hurt that the scenery is outstanding as well.

It would be helpful if they post the time that the actual mine closes instead of the gift shop. Online hours indicate that the hours are until 5 pm. However it closed at 4 pm. I would strongly suggest calling first. The visit was nice and short. Unfortunately pretty expensive for two hours.

It was a good experience for me to dig up dirt to find diamonds. But go with people who will also enjoy it. Better get your own tools, than paying the similar or more for renting. Put lots of sunscreen and circular rim cap and take along water with electrolytes. It would be fun with kids too, just pump them it's a treasure hunt.

It was exciting for a little while. (We expected we would be tired in an hour or two.) So basically you walk through a building to enter the park and walk down to the dirt field and dig. That's it. I wouldn't recommend for families that have children under the age of 8. (Due to lack of A/C or heating and the conditions of the weather.) This is definitely a cool spot to visit.
