Great well preserved old style station with a unique pebble-dash texture on the walls. Waiting room is in the old style as is the ticket counter. The exterior is nicely landscaped and includes an old (but well preserved) switching tower. Lots of bike parking. There is an adjacent bus terminal served by Greyhound, Yolobus, and UC Davis Unitrans. There are many places to eat nearby.

Location: Beautiful location. Whether you're there to experience the nightlife, or you're attending the area as a student, the Amtrak station is a quick trip from Sacramento. Lots of places to eat within walking distance of the train station. If you have a wait between trains, you won't have to walk far to find something to eat. Staff: Staff has always been friendly. At most I see 1 person actually at the station & the station is a decent size. They could use more staff in my opinion. Security: They have cameras. However they could benefit from actually having someone patrol the grounds. There were a couple times where some people were causing issues outside of the station. No one from the station came out to address it. So it felt a bit unsafe during those times something was going on. Having a security patrol can make it feel a bit safer. Seating: Lots of seating. From outside to inside. I rarely ever see this station packed. Most people are getting off the train, not many people wait for it, unless its the time of year for students to head home for the holiday or seasonal breaks. Then it gets a bit crowded at the station and trains. I highly recommend stopping at this station, even if its to visit their unique downtown area and experience it in the nighttime. It really comes to life at night.

I arrived pretty close to my departure time (I'll admit that, they say to arrive 15 minutes early and I was more like 5-10 minutes early) with a California Rail Pass, needing to buy reserve a ticket on a bus/train combo. The staff person present did everything in his power to delay me from getting from getting on the departing bus, turning a 5-minute transaction into a twenty-minute ordeal for no reason other than malice, and possibly racism. I will call the staff person GG, although I took note of his full name in order to launch a formal complaint. Things that GG did included: teasing me about being too close to departure time, pretending not to understand when I asked for a ticket, taking my passport and holding it, leaving the desk in the middle of serving me to load everyone's luggage but mine and then returning to the desk to tell me I was running out of time, pretending to forget my name while still holding my passport, daring me to get on the bus without his assistance, reprinting the wrong tickets (my father's and my sister's) instead of printing mine, and a lot of faked confusion about what he was to do. Ultimately, I was able to buy a seat on the bus and travel with my family, especially because the driver and the other staff were forgiving and waited for everything to be resolved. GG ultimately succeeded in making all of the passengers late.

NO security cameras and no security period left some woman vulnerable to an assault that happened right outside the ticket office. No one in the office bothered to come to her aid even though they had seen the African American woman lash out for no reason and irrationally. They din't do anything, offer, help or to call the police or anything, in fact, they have been harassing the Victim ever since. She happens to be the same one who got her luggage stolen outside of the station as well, no compensation or claim or even sympathy was offered because "It wasn't checked!". Davis people are often so passive aggressive, they don't even know they are being screwed. Even if you are being abused, they'll just sit there not wanting to get involved (unless they might get paid, perhaps they were mulling the possibility of their own lawsuit. Restroom doors are locked (unless you "Show your ticket") and the payphone no longer works. There is no charging station either. This negative review will get me in even worse straits with staff. One night time guy is wonderful. The rest just do the bare minimum. Both the other men do not like women.

Convenient to bus transfer. Plenty of ethnic restaurants coffeehouses and pubs and gift shops just 100 feet away. Indoor and outdoor waiting area. Bicycle parking and bike-friendly train service. Vintage architecture and interior. Modern sculptures. Old switch tower. Plenty of parking and curb pick-up areas.
