This post in response to the comments posted below by Jessica Ragan: First off, we would like to extend our condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother. We would also like to take the opportunity to apologize for any breakdown in communication we may have had regarding the temporary death certificate (which is a document that is issued by the state and we have no control over the speed in which they issue), we do our best and strive to expedite the documentation for our families, but again, we do not control the pace in which our state issues these documents. Also, you were not the individual we contracted with, your father was, so anyone else other than him trying to gather sensitive information will not be able to get that from us, as we protect the privacy of our families and their loved ones. Regarding your comments, and the context in which you posted them, I am saddened to know that you would go to the extent that you have to demoralize our firm in the eyes of millions, especially given the fact that you had nothing to do with any of the arrangements and were nowhere present for any part of the process. The sad fact is that we are being given a completely unfair and profane assessment by an individual whom is completely uninformed about the process. I can assure you that we did everything to ensure that your mother was properly and in a dignified manner prepared for the services that were arranged by your father, we have all the documentation to prove it. Furthermore, in following up with your father, he indicated quite the opposite of everything you had to say about us, and was ultimately satisfied with our services. Lastly, we do welcome constructive criticism, that’s how we as people grow and evolve, however, I am completely disheartened at your attempt to destroy a reputation that we have worked so hard for so many years to build, and you can rest assured, we will defend it at any cost.

My mother died September 1st. It is now September 19th and we still can't cremate her because they will not give the temporary death certificate to the funeral home where my mother resided and is to be cremated. I called and very politely asked, not to mention waited for 15 minutes to be able to speak to someone, when it would be ready since my mother is rotting and needs to be laid to rest. Janelle said she would call my dad back, even though we've been given that answer since last Thursday and no one has called us back and no one has called back the funeral home where we live and where my mother is to be cremated. You would think that the assholes at DeVargas Funeral Home would realize it's hard enough to lose a loved one but for them to not do their job and be rude about it to boot doesn't help anyone with anything. Not only is my mother dead but she is literally rotting because they will not send the paperwork that they've had three weeks to do now. I would highly recommend to anyone to use any Funeral Home other than DeVargas. If it were possible to give negative stars that would be exactly what they would get. In response to your review Mr. Devargus, I'm sorry that what i say has upset you to the point of contacting my father and responding with your review on google. However, i would like to go through at the facts at hand. You say your company was in contract with my dad, not me, and therefore no sensitive information could be given to me. That's understandable. But how does that excuse your employee Janelle for being rude and short with me on the phone? I asked when my mom might be laid to rest and if she knew when the paperwork might be done. I didn't ask how much the airfair was, what you were charging or anything of that nature. There is absolutely no excuse on your end for how unprofessional your representative was with me on the phone. I made the arrangements for the funerals in ohio and south Carolina, both by phone, and was talked to with dignity and respect by both, both funeral homes were in contract with my dad and still treated me with compassion, something your funeral home obviously could learn from. The funeral home in south carolina contacted your funeral home almost everyday, always being told they had no answers for them but would call back later that day when they could get them their answers..they never did. Both the funeral home in ohio and south carolina had nothing good to say about your people's response time, knowledge, or will to get anything done in a timely manner. Stating that its not your responsibility for when the temporary death certificate is issued is accurate, but why is it your staff only contacted the office that handles it once? 1 time in 3 weeks doesn't seem as though anyone who works for you is in any rush to get anything done, the money had already been paid to you. My mom was rotting waiting on that paperwork and your staff not only neglected their duties to follow up with the other funeral homes but also the OME office. This is also inexcusable. Furthermore, your crutch of saying my dad was pleased with you is not entirely on point sir. My dad was not happy either about my mom rotting and knowing your staff only called once. Out of the 3 funeral homes we went through, yours was by far the most inferior. I stand by my statements, all of them. Perhaps instead of writing a review in response to mine and calling my dad expressing how much my words have essentially pissed you off, you should use that energy to better train your staff and teach them how to be patient, speak with dignity, if nothing else, treat people like people and not an inconvenience and do their job properly. Im not slandering your business, I'm merely informing anyone in need of funeral home services of my experience with your business and staff so they can make an educated decision on who to use. If what i have said truley upsets you, perhaps you should work on your business ethics and operations to make sure your reputation is where you would like it to be, not where you wish it to be.
