Hello!
Thank you for your interest in dejumo!
Here is a little bit about dejumo and our story, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Patricia Gomez and Jonathan Hankar opened dejumo in December of 2016. They have both spent their entire careers in retail (Patricia as a corporate retail buyer and Jonathan as the owner of a local wholesale company; Be Home). dejumo was the opportunity for them to collaborate on a very special and local new project.
Patricia and Jonathan are long time Oakland residents and wanted the opportunity to participate in their community in a larger way. Opening a retail store in their historical neighborhood felt like the perfect place start.
dejumo's mission is to create a modern, sophisticated and inviting housewares destination. A place where customers can find unique, beautiful products for both gift giving and for their homes. We work with artisans around the globe, and are very proud to say, that the majority of our products are handmade. Because of this process, typically, no two pieces are exactly alike.
What does dejumo mean?
In March 2017, Patricia gave birth to two beautiful twin boys. dejumo is a phonetic take on “des jumeaux” which means “Twins” in French, the mother tongue of their Belgian Papa.
You’ll likely see the boys at the store from time to time.
