Story

The intent of this page is to share information about opportunities and events sponsored by or supported by the Delaware Division of the Arts and other state, regional or national arts service organizations; to share information on best practices in the arts and arts administration; and to provide a positive forum in support of the arts and culture in Delaware.

Mission

The Delaware Division of the Arts, a branch of the Delaware Department of State, is dedicated to cultivating and supporting the arts to enhance the quality of life for all Delawareans. Together with its advisory body, the Delaware State Arts Council, the Division administers grants and programs that support arts programming, educate the public, increase awareness of the arts, and integrate the arts into all facets of Delaware life.

Division programs include:

Grants:
- To Delaware individual artists for fellowships and professional or artistic development projects.
- To Delaware arts organizations for operating support, arts stabilization and arts education projects.
- To Delaware community-based organizations for arts-related projects.
- To Delaware schools for artist residencies and projects utilizing Delaware’s community arts resources to strengthen arts education programs and activities.
Programs and Events:
- Mezzanine Gallery – monthly solo exhibitions at the Carvel State Office Building in Wilmington
- Individual Artist Fellowship – a grant that recognizes artists for their outstanding quality of work.
- Delaware Arts Summit – a biennial event bringing together leaders in the field and offering professional development for Delaware artists and arts organization staff.
- Delaware National Arts Program – an annual program that provides Delaware state employees the opportunity to participate in a visual arts exhibition.
- Delaware Poet Laureate – an honorary position appointed by, and serving at the pleasure of the Governor.
- Poetry Out Loud – a statewide and national poetry recitation contest for high school students.
- Writers' Retreat – a biennial retreat for writers of prose and poetry.
