I rarely leave negative reviews without contacting merchants directly, but the feedback link in the order email leads somewhere my computer thinks is too unsafe and insecure to connect to. I remember Delta being dependable back in the day, if not usually my first choice, but we ordered takeout recently and had to throw almost the entire order away. The coating/breading they use on everything has an unappealing, sandy texture and desperately needs seasoning. I could see it working with fish, but the fried chicken breast was dry and chewy. The drumstick fared a teensy bit better but was nowhere near as juicy or flavorful as I expect from a piece of dark meat. And that coating is simply...not good. Mashed potatoes were just ok, better without the bland gravy. One of the fried cheesy polenta triangles obviously split open during cooking. It was packaged upside down to hide the gaping split, but when I tried to pick it up it disintegrated back into the takeout box. See photo. I did try the intact one, but it tasted more like fryer oil that needs changing than cheese or grits. Fried pickle spears tasted fine, but again with the sandy coating. The menu said we'd get corn bread with the order of drumsticks, but it wasn't included. After tasting the food we did get, I wasn't heartbroken. Person who picked up our food said cafe was empty, vibe was off, and the old fashioned he ordered while waiting his usual was unrecognizable and ungarnished. I honestly feel bad writing this, because they're an Old Portland joint to me, but OOF.
Best vegetarian greens- smokey and flavorful I ate every bit. Tender and delicious beignets, and perfect biscuits. Music was really loud and I asked if they could turn it down it was really making my dad disoriented and nervous. They turned it down and were very nice about it. Super delicious and nice staff!Food: 5/5
Delicious brunch at a reasonable price! Bartender Amy took great care of us, I had the Pink Lady and my boyfriend and I both got build your own brunch. I loved the option to pick a few sides as my meal. I really loved the biscuits and gravy, but the fried cheesy grits were also a surprise favorite. Will definitely be back!Food: 5/5
Been here many times for brunch and happy hour - the food is good and there's a unique vibe there is often Bob Ross on TV during brunch but it is hard to make up for the bad service. The staff are sweet but they move very slowly and our orders have been wrong maybe 15% of the time. The fried cheesy grits at brunch are 10/10 but don't go if you are on any sort of schedule.
I wasn't sure what to expect walking in as it was an eclectic vibe, and untraditional restaurant. The booths were held together by duct tape but it added a bit of charm. The food was absolutely incredible. Each dish we had was on point. Chicken poyboy, dirty Mac, gumbo, hush puppies and catfish were so good. The drink specials were plentiful and the one we had can't remember the name was perfect for a hot day. On top of all this, the service was amazing. Definitely go and enjoy this gem in Woodstock.
We shared the Fried Chicken Special- two breasts, four drumsticks, cole slaw and greens subbed for mashers and gravy- this was an incredible amount of food and so good for $20. The fried chicken at the Delta is some of the best in Portland. Wonderful cocktails, friendly service and a super relaxed atmosphere. Recommend!Food: 5/5
This negative review is for dinner only. Their brunch is pretty good. But after a few tries the dinner is one of the most overrated in Portland. The fact that this gets passed off as Southern or soul food is a joke. The seasoning profile is awful. All the spices are wrong. The mashed potatoes are glop, literally grey with added unnecessary nonsense. The chicken is dry, has a strange flavor, the seasoning on the skin is downright weird - almost sandy in consistency and with a completely bizarre flavor. BBQ po boy is just a gloppy mess...and so on. And it wasn't because it was take out, we were eating a few minutes after the food came off the line and it was fresh. I genuinely cannot believe anyone involved in developing this menu knows anything at all about authentic Southern down home cooking. If we took our Southern relatives here they'd make fun of us until the day we died. For fried chicken just go to Reel M Inn. No one else is close.
We waited almost a hour for our food and weren’t checked on once. Our appetizers came out with meals. Our fried pickles weren’t battered right either too thin or too chunky of batter. My friends meatloaf was burnt on the bottom, my boyfriend’s pulled pork was burnt and crunchy, my jambalaya was bland. I’m very disappointed because this has been my favorite restaurant the last 10 years.
Don't mind me, I'm that one guy that doesn't rate most things at a full 5 stars. Having grown up in catfish as a kid having survived growing up in the outskirts of the Bible Belt, I love stopping by for some southern comfort food / traditional staples. It's hard to go wrong with fried okra but if you're a fan of collard greens - because let's be honest, not everyone outside of the south may have garnered a particular taste for the dish - then you absolutely have to try theirs. Delta's collard greens are unadulterated by Kale - marinated in savory goodness. Don't take my word for it after all, a healthy dose of skepticism is only scientific. Try them for yourself!
The smoked brisket hash is one of the tastiest dishes in the city, this is like the only bar that is 100% upfront about the cost of all their liquors, and the servers have always been really cool and attentive. Great place!Food: 4/5
