I go there whenever I am in Scottsdale. Steven LaFever is the best ever hair stylist. He does an excellent job coloring hair too.

DO NOT GO HERE. Rick is the worst hair stylist I've ever been to - he has zero idea what he's doing and he's rude to boot! I called ahead for a balayage and he said that would be no problem. I brought in a picture with what I wanted and again he assured me he could do it. He began using foils and I questioned his process, (typically balayage is brushed in) but he assured me he knew what he was doing. After he was done foiling, he used a hair straightener directly on the foil and FRIED my hair. I made him stop, but the damage was already done. Once he removed the foils and washed and blow dried my hair - the bottom was bleach blonde (nothing like the picture - I wanted subtle, lighter shades of brown since my natural color is dark brown). There was also a line STRAIGHT across my head. Balayage is supposed to look natural - typically it's brushed in so it blends right it. This was not blended and so harsh looking. He also spilled dye on the top of my head so there was one spot that was bleached up top. I went to the bathroom and was mortified. 

He asked "do you love it?" and I broke down. He wasn't apologetic and acted shocked. I asked him to dye it brown immediately since I had a business trip in two days. He said he would fix it and began brushing dye into my hair....this made the bleach blonde a little less harsh, but didn't fix anything. There was still a line. I asked him again to dye it brown and he didn't even match my color. He took dye and used a brush to put in on my head - unevenly, missing many spots. He only had the dye sit for 15 minutes without any heat. Once he was done it didn't look right, but I couldn't see the line anymore (or so I thought). I refused to pay, but he charged me for a cut a blow-dry even though he cut less than half an each from my ends after I asked for a trim. Uncomfortable and flustered, I didn't argue and I paid $70. I honestly have never experienced such a horrible experience and was at the salon for over 4 hours and there until 9:30 pm. at night, alone with this man, who just destroyed my hair. I decided I would call the owner in the morning and ask for a full refund. 

I called the next day and Rick answered. I asked to speak to someone else about what had happened since my hair appeared to be muddy and a green/gray color since he put an unmatched brown over the bleach blonde he created. There was also the harsh line from the foils underneath my top layer of hair since he rushed to "fix it." He refused and said everyone was busy. I told him I needed to get it fixed and he said everyone was booked solid and it wouldn't be possible. I had my friend call the salon to make a fake appointment and he said they could fit her in - Rick was obviously lying to try to hide my hair fiasco from his fellow colleagues. So, on my lunch, the day before my business trip, I drove to the salon to try to get my refund and talk to someone about fixing my mess of a dye job. He saw me, stopped his haircut and asked me to go outside. He told me it looked great and wouldn't let me into the salon!! I left and went on my business trip and didn't wash my hair until 3 days after the dye job....when I washed it, dye came pouring out and the green, muddy color looked more apparent. 

I went to another salon and they were MORTIFIED at what Rick did to my hair. I had to pay over $200 for a corrective color, damaging treatment, a mask and 2 glazes to cover the bad color he put in my hair. It took them over 3 hours to fix it. I called again hoping to talk to someone else and left a voicemail. Rick TEXTED me aggressively saying to "bring it" if I wanted to go to small claims court for a refund. How pathetic is that? All I wanted was a refund for him butchering my hair. I have multiple pictures to show what a horrid job he did and if nothing else, I hope this review saves someone else from the torture I went through. Do NOT go to DeNova in Old Town Scottsdale!!
