This is a hard review to write, because I really liked this doctor on a personal level. I have waited a long time to make sure that results are not forthcoming, and to try and get feedback from his office. But, it appears he suggested the wrong spine surgery in January of this year (a laminectomy), which did not fix my back pain at L4/S1, at all. Other highly rated doctors have been surprised and said, "laminectomies are not even done much anymore". Most doctors I spoke to before or after my surgery said to get a disc replacement or a fusion. But making a wrong call is not even the main part of the problem, no one is perfect, we all make mistakes. Although going through spine surgery and not getting results is not fun, its understandable. But given his experience and credentials you'd think he would have made a better call on what type of surgery I needed. I do think its a disc replacement I need, its logical since my pain is only triggered when I sit, when the disc is loaded with pressure. I am sure he is an excellent doctor in general. But the biggest problem is that after 4 months of TRYING TO GET A PHONE CALL BACK TO DISCUSS THE LACK OF BENEFITS FROM THE SURGERY, 4 months of begging his assistants and staff for a call back, 4 months of emails and phone calls, dozens and dozens of requests for some sort of reply, most of which went unanswered, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. To make a wrong call on a surgery does not make me happy but its understandable, but to completely and utterly ignore my requests for post surgery input, that is downright NEGLIGENT. I had a post surgery MRI done on the west coast where I live now, and sent him the disc to review, and tell me what he thinks a next surgery should be, if he sees anything different now than in prior MRI's, or anything at all that can help push me in a better direction. But I get no replies at all. I am tired of begging him and his office for input, one simple phone call would have alleviated all of my frustrations. But after 4 months of begging for input, it is time to write this negative review. As I said, I am sure in general he is an excellent doctor, but he needs to get his office together, have a team that is more well run, and pay attention to people post surgery as well as pre-surgery and during surgery. Doctors are not excluded from running a proper business and maintaining client care and communications. It is utterly absurd that I can't get input from the man that sliced me open on helping me get better direction towards my next surgery, whether it is surgery that he would do or someone else would do, and hope to get a better outcome. I guess I'll just start from scratch, and a new doctor that has not done the surgery will have to start cold and not have the advantage of having already actually seen what's going on inside me. This NOT the way for me to get the best results for my next surgery, but short of flying back to the DC area and walking into his office and confronting he and his staff directly, and waiting for answers; I have to move on with my life and try and make the next best set of decisions for myself, unfortunately on my own without input from my surgeon.
