Reviews
Going to the Duling-Kurtz House and Country Inn? Here is our review/s of The Duling-Kurtz House restaurant. We went Sat. August 19, 2017. @ 1:00 PM and left at 5:30 PM. Party of 7 for a family LUNCH. Rated 0 to 10, 10+ = BEST! 1) 9 = PARKING – adequate w/ approx. 50+ spots in back. The asphalt made it easy for us to walk to the door. 2) 9 = EGRESS & EXIT – lot & building. Once you been there, you’re an expert. You can drop off at the circle near the door so The Duling-Kurtz House is Handicap friendly. CAUTION: Watch the wood step at the door threshold. 3) 10 = WAIT STAFF – Professional & knowledgeable, friendly, well groomed, clean and respectful. We were seated & served immediately in our own private room! Special kudos (10+) to Ken, our dedicated waiter. Ken was very attentive, but NOT over bearing. It was obvious this was not Ken’s first rodeo! Ken checked properly. 4) 4 = DRINKS – High prices, small size, quick and good selection. The Duling-Kurtz House really lacks here. My wife and I ordered 1 glass each of wine which was about 1/3 full. I know, I know, this is proper etiquette and how it is supposed to be filled. Guess what, I’m the paying customer, I say fill it more or I won’t buy again! The other 5 in our group did not buy any alcohol drinks, they had coffee and water. The Duling-Kurtz House needs to have a lessor priced house wine/s. I am NOT a believer that higher priced wines are better. Blind taste test have proven this to be a myth world-wide. In fact, a wine tasting test in Baltimore a few years ago brutally proved this point when a $6.00 bottle of wine won the best of best. The Duling-Kurtz House needs to have a house wine/s that have LOWER “normal” prices… enough with the over-priced snob act! It’s better to sell more and make some profit then to sell less OR make no profit! I’m NOT stupid with my money and neither are others! See their drink prices on line. 5) 9 = FOOD – The Duling-Kurtz House employs a CHEF NOT a cook! The chef was either professionally trained at a place like Johnson & Whales or been in the biz a long, long time. The dishes were presented, timely, professionally, simultaneously and the food was perfectly done. In addition to menu items, The Duling-Kurtz House has off the menu daily specials. Our bill including 21% tip was $380/7 = $54.00 each. Our 7 orders were: 3 had Lobster Crepes, 1 had Fish & Chips (which my wife and I want to get next time), 3 had off the menu Blackened Red Snapper served with an array of palate complimenting AND opposing ingredients to add to the red snapper... I must say the chef was/is quite creative. I was watching, no one used salt or pepper, the food was seasoned in the kitchen correctly. There were zero food or any complaints. See their menu on line. We all had deserts. I believe they were made in house, they were so good and different! I will describe the deserts in one word… they were all EVIL very, very EVIL… Anything that good has to be EVIL! Over all The Duling-Kurtz House caters to the discriminating palate who appreciates the finer things in life such as tasty, well prepared and presented food. It is wise to see their prices on line first, we believe we got our monies worth. 6) 10 = CLEANLYNESS, DÉCOR & OMBIENCE – The place is tastefully decorated without any clashing styles. The various menus and list/s were wiped clean by the wait staff. Their janitorial bill must be enormous with all the nooks and crannies. The lighting is adequate and not gaudy. The Duling-Kurtz House was a former estate. There are lots of things to see and explore if it’s not too crowded, this was true at lunch time. Try to take the time to read the info sheets at the bottom of the “bee hive” oven. Also see the cooking fireplace behind it. Both are near the bar. 7) 8 = BATHROOM/S – Not separate men/women they are shared and single use. They were clean, not dirty, all towels and soap were full to needed levels. Bowl clean, sink clean, no spilled or dripped liquid soap residue on sink.

The location was easy to reach, and the building was beautiful! We even received a pamphlet with the history of the building. The service was nice, if not a bit slow, but that was to be expected due to the Mother's Day holiday. My only major qualm is the food. The food did not match the quality of the service or decor. The chicken from their chicken and waffles was burnt, the steak and eggs looked like something you would get at a waffle house. My eggs benedict came and the English muffin was not toasted, the Canadian bacon ham slice was slightly thicker than the sliced ham one would put on a sandwich. The only redeeming parts were the fingerling potatoes with the eggs benedict, and the cheese plate I had as a dessert. The building and service we're nice, but the food was nothing spectacular.

We went there for mother's day and the food and ambiance was fantastic. The brunch selection, while a bit limited, had more than enough options to make us all happy. Will absolutely be returning for other special occasions.

The restaurant is pretty cool. There are dining area in different rooms in the house, which gives it a unique, cozy atmosphere. The food is decent, though we left hungry due to small portions (especially compared to the price of the meal). We left with an intention not to return, due to that fact. It was $130+ for dinner for 2, plus a shared dinner salad as an appetizer, a shared desert, and a bottle of wine.
