For the railroad buff this place is can't miss. Incredible amount of history here. Very well displayed. Easy to get overwhelmed. But plenty of places to sit and rest. Amazing museum. Staff is knowledgeable and engaging. Plan to spend 3-4 hours here to scratch the surface while she shops downtown Durango. Then go back!

What a fun experience. Everyone should take this train ride. Guides & brakemen...woman were great. Scenes out the window surpassed anything I had seen. The fall colores were superb. Silverton was fun but snowy & wet day we were there. Loved all our events in Durango.

If you like trains this is the best place you could go. This museum is all about trains. It's a great place to take children it's a great place to take children they do have a model train sets set up that's pretty incredible. Inside the museum not only do they have a lot of items that relate to trains memorabilia belt buckles that say the Santa Fe Railroad on them excetera excetera they have real train cars that you can walk through. They even have an airplane from the same era as of time hanging from the ceiling. We took a lunch and ate on a bench outside of the museum is very comfortable but they do have a dining car. If you have a family in our traveling through Durango I recommend highly that you stopped here. And if you're hungry there's a McDonald's right next door and prefer to eat somewhere besides the museum.

This is a really neat train station and train yard. My family went on the historical narration car up to Silverton and back, and went on the train yard tour. They were both really informative and fun to be on. The narrators were really fun and seemed to be enjoying themselves. We also got the souvenir mug which let us get lots of drinks which was super worth it!! I would recommend the trip!!! :)

I love this spot! my boyfriend and I had an incredible time on the train from Durango to Silverton and back. It was the best anniversary present! We rode the glass dome car, which kept the soot to a minimum. Don't forget your sunglasses! You definitely want a have wrap or safety glasses while riding most cars or or standing on the area in between the cars. I have spent a lot of time, on a few occasions, wondering around the museum. I find something new and interesting each time. I have been there with many family members. They have a few old car that are the same age as my 93 year old grandpa. He got a kick out of that.
