Story

Urban design, diner function, and a casual vibe mark this fun restaurant. Savory and hearty California-Asian influenced cooking is the mainstay of the menu, with options for carnivores and herbivores alike.

The Monk’s Stone Pot is the featured dish – a super-heated stone pot filled with rice and veggies, topped with an over-easy egg and drizzled with house made hot sauce. Add a variety of other delicious toppings like sliced, marinated rib eye or organic tofu.

Quench your fire with our nice selection of frosty, local craft beers or sake.

Can't beat this Asian monk bowl 🥣 noodle restaurant. Prepare to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a table, put your name down on the list as soon as you get there. Everything I've tried here is tasty. I usually order the kimchi as a starter (or sometimes the coconut shrimp) , but honestly the bowls are so large that it's more than enough for 1 or even 2 people. I like the Mongolian bowl and I usually substitute the rice for glass noodles.

One of my Encinitas faves. Monk bowl or peanut noodles are my go to. Kimchi pancakes are amazing. Beer and saki special helps to wash it all down. EV has become a weekly ritual. Love the japanimation theme as well!

Oh my God this is actually the most amazing and delicious restaurant in San Diego. I was walking by it one day and decided to try it and I'm so happy I did. I've Only gotten the Mongol pot (I think that's what it's called) and it's so good. All it is is a bunch of vegetables, some meat of your choice (they also have vegan options and you don't even need to order meat), white or brown rice, and an egg. You can also substitute the rice with kale and add or take away anything you want. They serve it in a really hot bowl that keeps the food warm the entire time you're eating it (it's what makes the food so delicious). However, you should take their advice and never touch the bowl under any circumstances ever unless you want to burn yourself. Anyways, so on top you can add their sauces and some Sriracha and it all melts together. to be honest I'm not even the biggest fan of vegetables but they become so tender and flavorful that it would be a shame to eat the bowl without it. In terms of the restaurant, it's very rustic and clean. The waiter that works their is really chill and cool so I've never had a problem with the service. The price of the bowl is around $9 with no meat and with beef (which is what I highly recommend) it's around $14 after taxes. You get so much food and it's so delicious that it's really worth it in my opinion. Tl;dr If you are looking for a healthy place to eat that's extremely delicious and unique, I highly recommend eating here.

Delicious food, excellent hospitality. The kimchi beef burrito was perfect.

Even on a week night you can find a line waiting for tables here. Funky Asian fusion with constant anime on the tvs, sake and beer flowing, and steaming hot monk bowls will keep you coming back time and time again. Staples like fried rice and teriyaki chicken are good, but choose an Asian burrito or any protien style monk bowl to know why it's always packed here.
