The worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. Though they were very kind, their service was poor and frankly super lame! They recommended the salmon which was fried (though that was not noted on the menu) and extremely bland. This was served with black beans and COLD rice. I told them about the rice, they apologized and brought out a new plate of rice (even though I told them not to); the new plate quite obviously tasted and looked like charred rice that had been microwaved to heat up. So gross. The couple next to us received the entirely wrong order! It was pathetic! Never going back.

It's a pleasant place to hang out during the day, for sure, and this review is for lunch. I am aware of the history of this restaurant, and had been to the Bronx location way back when. It was superb. Now any flaws that exist in the cuisine are not necessarily the fault of the chef or the owners; no...it's the fault of the bland palettes and cultural politics of the basic people (my ex-neighbors, y'all) of the Prospect Heights-Crown Heights Borderlands. The beans were too thick and pasty and were, unfortunately, vegetarian. The carne asada had a gamey flavor that can result either from grassfed cattle (for hipsters) or from cheap meat (because the rent is too high). I did very much enjoy the chicken tinga and wouldn't hesitate to order it again inside some enchiladas. Salsas were just short of zippy, and tortillas were hard and sullen as if they resented being served up on Washington Avenue. I feel for you, my tortilla brothers and sisters.

For starters, Chef Denisse is the realest restaurant owner. It's very rare to eat somewhere and feel like you're at home, but shehe goes out of the way to make you feel that. The food is phenomenal, I don't usually like mole, but I dream about her mole, the cochinita pibil is out of this world, and finally the chorizo anything. You really cant go wrong here.

Great spot to pop into on a Saturday afternoon for a margarita and guacamole. A pitcher is $42, one taco per serving. Preferred the shrimp over the pork. Cute back patio with a very friendly staff.
