Story

Established in 1976, El Unico Restaurant & Cafeteria is a community staple in Hudson County and Union City's local Latin Community for over 35 years. After selling his business in 1992, Juanito Montes de Oca, the founder of this establishment, and his daughter Maria Elena have returned to restore this renowned neighborhood gem back to its former glory. Serving today's best Cuban food at incomparable 1976 prices! Visit us and enjoy some of the best Cuban food north of Key West!

My review is not really about the food, but about an employee. An older gentleman, I believe his name was Jose. My son eats here often, since he goes to school close by, and he enjoys the food. A few days ago he lost his very expensive retainer, and he approached this employee and asked him for help. This man went above and beyond, and searched high and low, EVERYWHERE, until he found it. We were very relieved, and appreciative. My son and I spoke that night, and he mentioned how this man did not complain at all, he just started searching, and didn't stop until he found the retainer. We decided to do something nice for him, so we brought him a thank you card and expressed how grateful we were. He was so humbled, and he mentioned that he isn't usually treated nicely by students, so he was thankful that someone appreciated the work he does daily, and thanked him for this. Jose is an incredible, kind hearted, generous person. He is the exact person you'd want to come into contact with, at any stage in life. Someone who isn't getting a benefit out of doing something for another person, but decides to do it anyway. I will always support my son eating at El Unico; I will make sure we go as a family as well. I hope we can all teach our children to be kind to people, all people, no matter their job. *WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS*. This man could have easily said "no, you guys aren't nice to me", but he didn't. Sir, you told my son you hope God blesses him, but we hope God blesses you even more. In all aspects of life. You are a beautiful person. Thank you again.

A fantastic breakfast for $4.50 ! Going tomorrow for lunch. Same man took order, served us and checked us out. Menu is outstanding. Plenty to choose from. Very friendly and a nice place. Wish I had a place like this in my town.

Don't get deceived by the appearance of this restaurant. If you come in and try their food you will be hooked. Their boliche and cuban sandwich are delicious. They have a good variety of shakes and sodas too. Give it a try you won't regret it.

Lovely lovely place. It truly made it great change. The food is great. With insane low prices. You'll leave here with full stomachs

Affordable Latin food....not the best but some plates like the fricasse de pollo...chicken in sauce....is really tasty. Where else can you get roasted chicken with rice and beans for 3.50 😀😀😀. My biggest complaint place can look a lot neater...and some of the food less grease.😐
