Helpful staff and fast service. Lady at the visa window helped to check my documents one by one and told me to collect passport in 4 days.

These people are crazy, the visa lady is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. We invited her to Thanksgiving dinner. Positive and professional experience from start to finish. I know I only have one embassy to chose from, bit if there were two, I'd pick this one, hands down!

Being someone born in Japan and suffering memory issues here in the states I basically was turned away from a country I protected. Heart broken right now.

The visa lady is a bit rude. I participated in a Japan trek organized by my school, and I showed her the letter from my school including the goal of the trek, the hotels information, the fees for the trek and participants information. The organizer of my school said the payment information and the hotels were included in the letter, so I didn't need to provide my bank statements. However, she's impatient and she even didn't look at the letter I gave her. She asked where's my bank statement? Where's hotels confirmation? She said I missed documents and I should come again. Then I asked her could you please first look at all the documents I gave you, especially the letter from my school? Then she began to look at the letter but she said I still missed some documents. In my eyes, she's rude. What she said was different from what the organizer of my school said, but the organizer told me he contacted the embassy of Japan before and had got permission of the embassy of Japan.

Well, let's see. The visa lady seems to overthrow a lot of traditional view on Japanese ladies that they are very nice and patient. She did appear to be impatient and rude to me at the first time when I talk to her. While the website says they don't advise purchasing an airline ticket before approval of my visa, the lady urged me where is my ticket, I was trying to tell her what the website said about this but she cut me off rudely. However, after a while, she seems to be very happy and glad to answer a lot of question. Maybe she is an aggresive worker that strive to get work done before rambling some gibberish with the customers. Still, get used to that if you want to travel to Japan for whatever reasons, because these type of people aren't minority in Japan.
