Story

The Equitable Federal Credit Union has been serving it's members for over 78 years. The EQFCU was originally formed on January 18, 1936 as the M. O.Neil Company Federal Credit Union in Akron, OH. The credit union has been through many changes over the years including name changes to accommodate market changes and member service upgrades.

The Credit Union was created by employees of the M. O'Neil company to pool their money in savings so others could borrow as needed. The Credit Union was not connected to the ownership of the company itself. The Credit Union was and is still ran by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Any member over 18 years of age, who is in good standing with the Credit Union is eligible to run for a position on the Board of Directors to help in the creation of policies and the addition of new services for the membership.

•Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Akron, OH
•Business or Organizations in Akron, OH
•Members of the immediate family of the household

Review your customer calls to your member specialists and provide notification of policy changes to your members. I spoke with Amber today regarding my car payment, which is auto-drafted biweekly, about skipping a payment as I will be ahead a payment and she informed me this is no longer policy. When I first started banking here I could stop the draft from my bank account in general. Then the process changed to you couldn't stop the draft but you could have the funds drafted into an EFCU account. Now when I am ahead there are no options. When I had spoken to someone earlier in the year they told me to call after April as my payment would be drafter 3x that month to have the extra payment transferred into my account. I called to do just that and this is no longer the case. No customer courtesy was offered. No letter was received stating this change in policy. Amber did not offer me any options other than the continual repeat of "this is the new policy." When I asked to speak to a supervisor she put me on hold. She came back stating she had spoken to a supervisor and they said the same thing. To which I responded that's fine but I want to speak to them myself. She then put me on hold again and came back saying the supervisor was now in a meeting. I then proceeded to ask for any manager. She told me there was none. So I then asked to speak to John, another membership specialist whom I have had positive customer service experiences with I. The past. She said she could help me with whatever I needed, to which I informed her that I obviously did not wish to speak with her anymore. We ended the conversation and I called back and thankfully got John. He was able to provide me with multiple options and I never once felt the need to ask for a supervisor as he was able to handle everything professionally and in a way that both honored the new policy but also assisted me as a customer. John is the only reason this review is receiving more than one star.
