Eureka police department is awesome and helpful. Whenever you have an emergency they respond in a blink of an eye. They do whatever they can to keep Eureka a safe city.

Special thank you to Officer White, for helping us get one very stubborn lady to take her medicine. People rarely mention the small deeds the police do every day, so I'm going to share this one. Keep up the good work, and thanks again!

This is a small department responsible for policing a large city, which definitely has its fair share of crime, tweakers, mentally ill, homeless, etc. In my opinion they do an excellent job with the limited amount of officers they have. They respond to calls fast, do good traffic enforcement but are also fair and will frequently issue warnings if you are respectful to them. I sometimes volunteer my time doing my own "patrols" (watching for DUI drivers, etc). The first few times the officers noticed me they ran my plate then it seemed they realized I was on their side. I also report gas prices for the Gas Buddy app, so during my rounds at night to every gas station in the county, I feel that I am an extra set of eyes and ears on the road for them. I caught a suspect that allegedly broke a window to a 3rd St shop one morning, he happened to walk right by me after hearing his description over the radio, I called in his location and an officer was there taking him into custody within a minute. Also found a suspect who allegedly broke into a car about 5 blocks away from where the officers were, he took off on me so called it in, not sure if they were able to apprehend that one. Regardless, I've always been thanked for calling in what I see, and the nights that I'm out reporting gas prices and doing my "patrols", I see officers that are very fair to the citizens they come into contact with for whatever reasons. I always remind people, don't bash the police when you see 2 or 3 cars at a traffic stop. They are running one-man cars, and in my years of experience as an explorer where I went through (almost) the entire police academy, I can honestly say that pulling over a vehicle is the single most dangerous thing a police officer can do. There is NO such thing as a "routine" traffic stop. You never know who's behind the wheel until you walk up to that car, or what they may have as far as weapons, what they may be running from, etc. So when you see 2 or more cars at a traffic stop, think about how you would feel approaching an unknown vehicle with unknown number of people in the car in the middle of the night by yourself.... you wouldn't want to be alone. Good job EPD, know that I'll always have your 6 when you see me out there.
