Kaolin at Flat Tire bike shop is such an amazing/knowledgeable guy I’m pretty sure this review will sound like I was paid for it but here goes anyway…I went in with a friend for a bike fitting, I knew my 29er MTB bike was too small for me but the price on the bike was too good. I didn’t have any pain during any rides, I just wanted to make sure everything was “right”. The fitting for someone with normal flat pedals is only $40-50 and Kaolin goes through every single part of the bike and you. He explains everything in such a way that anyone can understand it, you never get talked down to which I have experienced at other shops. I snapped my chain the day before my fitting and he threw a new chain on right there on the spot. He set the shock pressures, rebound setting, seat height, seat rail, changed the bar clamp to a longer one that I brought, adjusted the bar angle, set all of the shifters/grips/brake levers. There was nothing on the bike that was not touched and everything was explained along the way. The fitting took quite a while there is no way he is making much money on the deal and even says up front he doesn’t want to sell you anything; he hopes he can just adjust what you have to make it perfect for you. My carbon frame was also squeaking and he installed new crank bearings at the same time at my request. After the fitting you go ride the bike outside and come back and he makes more adjustments as needed. Then to top it all of he says if you ever need a fitting adjustment he will do it for free! Then he gives you his cell number on the receipt. I have been involved in numerous hobbies and in each one you meet very few special people like Kaolin. He is supremely knowledgeable, humble, his enthusiasm is contagious and he is also professional and friendly and the price can’t be beat. What else is there?

Extremely poor service as well as use of profanity by multiple staff members. Parts are poor quality and overpriced. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Friendly, helpful, and great ambassadors to cycling. Best experience I’ve had at a bike shop and got a wonderful bike fit that has made cycling enjoyable again. Flat Tire bike shop and Kaolin are the best.

This my new favorite bike shop, worth the trip. Also has a cafe next door. Very helpful staff and all around good destination.

Hands down, Flat Tire Bike provides the best customer service I've experienced anywhere. I had an issue today with my bike's recent mysterious clicking. The owner himself spent a half hour removing component after component until he located the problem. He could have thrown his hands in the air and claimed I'll need to leave it for them to work on it along with probably replacing expensive parts, but instead he dug at it until he found the problem. In the end, all he asked for was a handshake! People worry about Amazon taking over retail. Amazon can't touch the personal, speedy, skilled service of Flat Tire Bike. Retailer owners and executives should go buy a bike there just to see first hand what remarkable customer service feels like!
