I graduated from Basic Training here in 1980. I loved my journey here. 18 years old right out of high school! My first time camping out in the snow for 2 weeks. The Army called it bivwac! The best time of my life and first time being away from home alone. Was homesick, but had to grow up and the Army helped me do it! Beautiful Base and tough as steel drill sergeants! When graduation day came, it was awesome! The Master drill sergeant was my homeboy & he let me have my way the week of graduation by letting me and the rest of his home girls pamper ourselves by getting our hair done, shopping, eating and going out. What a life's experience it was. I'm so glad I made this choice! Forever Grateful I experienced this! Delta-4-3!!!

Great place to live and work. Home of the Chemical Corps, Military Police and Engineers. Lots of great things to do here and in the area with a outdoor recreational family.

Where's the professionalism? Why put yourself at the mercy of some sadistic Smokey the Drill-Sergeant CLOWN who found a career in the army bravely victimizing teen-age volunteers?Only after enlistment did we discover that since Ft. Leonard Wood (FLW) is out in the middle of nowhere, the drill-instructors attitude toward recruits was: 'what happens in FLW, stays in FLW'. This meant that their army REMF drill-sergeants would abuse, beat & mistreat the recruits for any reason using the pretext of training & maintaining discipline. This excessive use of physical & verbal abuse went above & beyond any limits currently set forth in TRADOC Regulations prohibiting HAZING in recruit training (ACP4-20). Also known as "Ft. Lost in the Woods", the army drill-sergeants were red-neck bigots who appeared comical at first when they told us:"Don't be scratchin' yo A$$ in MY formation, boy!", but we soon found that they were tyrants of their own little world who really did NOT care if they set us up for failure. They introduced us to army values and traditions by issuing us old lawnmowers & slingblades in order to maintain the grounds of this poison ivy hellhole and using us as free day laborers. FLW has the highest rate of recruits discharged during basic training so your military career CAN begin and END at this god-forsaken place.Instead of building teamwork and morale they were more interested in turning the recruits against each other. Our Senior Drill Instructor arbitrarily placed our entire training company "Black Sheep" on Total Control just so the recruits could get "smoked".There was a fake grave in front of the barracks CQ where this SDI-SOB threw gravel on a recruit during formation. This prejudiced SDI used personal dislike to "get rid" of trainees. The army drill-instructors abuse of authority was a fundamental part of the whole rotten bad-faith system. They scorned any sense of patriotism that we thought we had by treating us like juvenile delinquents in a jail & detention center sentenced to punishment & brainwashing. They led us by the nose through a dark alley to a dead end. This is NOT what the recruits signed-up for, because we were being misled & lied to since we first enlisted. Also, if you sustain an injury during BCT then you will be kept back to be recycled & lose your selected MOS. Any recruit suspected of having challenged the depraved authority of the army drill-sergeants was targeted with retaliation & reprisal for the rest of the training cycle. The NCOs lectured us that we were subject to the UCMJ, but acted as if they themselves were above the law and NOT accountable to anyone. We made an official request to speak with the First-Sergeant but this was ignored and never forwarded by our SDI. What they DO NOT want you to know is that formal complaints can be filed against your superiors through the chain of command (Articles 93 & 138 UCMJ) to the Company & BN Commanding Officer levels since the NCOs cover for each other anyway. These charges will remain on their permanent record. NEVER LET any sick or stupid "heroes" try to convince you that they are supposed to "break down" & "weed out" recruits in violation of Regulations. If they have nothing to hide then why do they confiscate your camera-phone at the Reception Station? (This is the old barracks where the blanket-parties start.) There really should be a lot more YOUTUBE videos of army BCT to expose this lack of integrity, so make sure to record & upload videos of your favorite psycho drill-sergeants when you get a chance. FLW in the Ozarks can be described as a combination of the two movies "Deliverance" and "Full Metal Jacket"-LOL! FLW-Missouri (Misery) is the worst post in the USA and the best way to avoid being sent there is simple-DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY! Army recruiting-sergeants are really just used-car salesmen in uniform anyway, they will tell you anything in order to make their quota. US Army installations in Europe are closing so tell those deceptive army recruiters to KI$$ your college bound A$$ instead! Or get your degree in the US Air Force. Aim High.

I was one of the very first civilian LEOs ( +Retired Army) to attend the USAMPS ALETD counter terrorism training program. Post 9-11, many such programs became available to qualified personnel. The crew and facilities were absolutely the best! FLW is a renewed, clean and modern facility. Over the course of several years I had the honor to train with their Mobile Training Team a few more times, in Ohio and Kentucky. Awesome experience!

My husband went to basic here, he saidnhe hated it. The exchanged it pretty nice and so is some of the other stuff on base. But atsome restaurants people are rude and pushy. We drove here a lot for Athens Ohio. Itwas worth seeing him on family day and graduation. We made 8 trios up here I believe. So worth it.
