Franklin Mineral Museum Inc

Story

The Franklin Mineral Museum contains a comprehensive display of minerals from the Franklin-Ogdensburg, NJ area, and site of the once active zinc mines. Visitors will see gemstones, crystals, and specimens of great rarity, as well as artifacts connected with the past of this unusual area.
The wealth of mineral specimens at Franklin owes it’s abundance to a sequence of geological events never duplicated elsewhere. Learn about these events as you walk through the exhibits.
The Museum contains a vast permanent world wide collection, and loaned collections of unusual interest. It also houses a spectacular display of fluorescent minerals, when viewed under ultra violet light is absolutely magnificent.
The Mine Replica, located in the original engine house which was used to hoist ore from the open cut, simulates actual mining operations in the Franklin Mine.
The Museum is privileged to offer Rock Collecting to the general public in such a mineralized area.

Unusual rocks and minerals. A great place to visit with children. Bringing a fluorescent lamp is helpful, but not necessary.

Great place for families. They have a wonderful gemstone exhibit and what they refer to as the "dump" where you can go and volley florescent rocks to take home!

Excellent facility and museum. Fun to find raw specimens and check them out for fluorescence onsite. Awesome fluorescence display.

We've visited this Museum many times and have always enjoyed it. We had a birthday party here for our son years ago and the kids really enjoyed it--especially the Buckwheat Dump! Don't miss it!
