I just saw Dr Van Gemert DO. I have never had a Dr. give me a cheaper option of getting labs done. She suggested that I go to another facility instead of going to St. Francis hospital. I like St. Francis, but my labs cost a couple hundred bucks with my insurance. This other facility can give me a basic Metabolic lab test for twenty bucks. That means a lot to me. I also want to comment that when my blood pressure medication was up, she automatically refilled it for me. I understood I had to have an appointment for insurance purposes. She actually gave me a years worth of refills just knowing that I had made an appointment two months out. I felt like after seeing these reviews this office deserved some recognition for trying to be fair financially to its patients.

I am an established patient and had seen my N.P. three times in 2015, including medicine check in August. When my N.P. moved, I was assigned to Dr. VanGemert. She refused to refill a "non-controlled substance" until I saw her and became established with her. I had already been established with the practice so I was confused by the hesitation. I saw her in November for a sinus infection, she reviewed and refilled my medicines then. It is now January and she refuses to refill them until I see her again. This does not make any sense to me and feels like she is simply trying to get yet another office visit billed to my insurance. I voiced my concern but was hushed by "It's doctor's preference". Apparently, the doctor would "prefer" it if I wasted my time and money to continue office appointments every time I need a refill. Convenient.
