While on a stay at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel we killed some time by stopping in the Game Room for a quick snack and complimentary drink. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was busy. A very large space with ample seating, bar seating, and games throughout. We sat at the bar and due to the busy nature of the restaurant it took a while for the bartender to greet us but once he did he was quick and thorough. Ordered two beers and a basket of fries and scooped out the games while we waited. Typical bar feel but the energy was amazing. People enjoying drinks and nostalgic games. We loved the foosball table> It was great burning off energy here and the laid back feel of the bar was refreshing.
Great service. Good food, good location. Enjoyed a lot. Went there with the team of my official colleagues and it was fun. We had games we had drinks. We enjoyed a lot. Do come to this place whenever you are in Chicago downtown. This is a good place to go and enjoy a lot. Food is good. Drinks are good. Enjoy itFood: 5/5
Came here yo meet up with a coworker. Food and drinks priced fairly and the service was great, will be back!Food: 5/5
Food was quick and good. Beer was served at an ideal temperature and had a good, yet small selection of local beers. It was not busy when I arrived at opening, but the staff were friendly and looks like it can accommodate a nice crowd.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Game Room at the Chicago Athletic Association and was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. The ambiance is both stylish and inviting, with a retro-chic vibe that immediately puts you at ease. The game selection is also top-notch, with a wide variety of options to suit all tastes. Highlight: Our server, Peyton, was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and beverage offerings. He even went the extra mile to create a specialty cocktail for our table, which was absolutely delicious. Opportunity: The food was lacking in many aspects, most notably in the area of palatability. My $16 chicken sandwich was cold and came with a small pile of fries. Summary: I had a great time at the Game Room and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing evening out maybe after eating dinner. The ambiance, game selection and service are all top-notch.
The service was excellent Sam was attentive, made great suggestion all of which were great, food was delicious! Food temperature was perfect and drinks were awesome. My only disappointment was we didn't have the chance to engage in pool. The ambience was nice, however they could use a few more table games to keep up with the demand of consumers. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend anyone to patronize this venue. If you have a choice of servers ask for Sam, he was amazing!
We have visited The Game Room every year for several years and have created so many wonderful memories. However, this year we were very disappointed. Bocce ball is gone and has been replaced by pay-to-play carnival games. Of the three shuffleboards, only one had sand, barely. We were never approached by a server for a beverage, even though the server's station was right next to where we were playing shuffleboard. And when we went to the bar to get our drinks, the bartender seemed annoyed that we wanted something. And we were there at 7:00pm, so it's not like it was closing time. There used to be a wait list for the games, but they got rid of that, so this time we had others being quite rude and intrusive to get our shuffleboard table. We have recommended the place to so many of our friends over the years and have made many memories there ourselves. However, I do not know that we will return.
This is such a fun place in downtown Chicago. Our only wish was that we were at a better time to visit the other rooms in the building. Fries and pretzel were great, and the Old Fashioned's were very strong. Had a great time on the shuffleboard, we will definitely return to partake in more games in the future!
Game Room is a neat old authentic bar in the gorgeous Chicago Athletic Association. We originally tried Cindy’s Rooftop but it was packed. Someone who worked at the hotel reception desk told us about Game Room. We had some nice cocktails and warmed up before going back out to explore the city some more.
I helped organized a non profit event at the game room on 10.18.2023. We arrived a little before the start of the event to see a nice sized area roped off for the event. As a nonprofit, we have a tight budget and we were very clear that we could not exceed our required F&B minimum of $2,100. I tracked our tab with the servers, who would show me where our tab was periodically. I told them when we were at approximately $1,900 that it needed to be last call. I checked again 10 minutes later and directly informed them to stop serving when I saw the tab was then at almost $2,200 and to start taking individual tabs or direct guests to the bar. I made it clear that I was the event host and that I had made the decision to stop serving any beverages. My direction was heard, acknowledged, but unfortunately ignored. The staff continued to ignore me as I consistently told them that they needed to put any additional charges on personal tabs. The manager told us that they had increased our minimum during the event and that they were required to serve us drinks up to the minimum. I continued to tell them to stop serving drinks and to stop charging to our tab, as it would be very bad to have all those drinks need to be comped by the CAC. They ended up delivering a bill to me at the end of the night of over $5,400. The venue is not offering to drop the additional charges above the tab when I directed them to do so.
