It is my first time buying food from this market. The picture I added is the enchilada plate with shredded beef inside the enchiladas. I paid $14.06 for this meal. I consider the cost of the plate to be worth the meal because the enchiladas are delicious, there are four included and the beans and rice are good. So I recommend this market while they have other meals in the back on display that you can attempt to order.
The owner asked me if I had cash and when I didn’t, he charged me $2 for using my debit card. The tamales are super expensive - 4 dollars each - and not that remarkable. The same day I went to two other tamale places looking for quezo tamales. Both the other places charged less than $3 each and were fresh out of a steamer and not from a refrigerator. Unfortunately I also purchased flour tortillas from this store and they were cold and dry. At another Mexican market close by, I purchased fresh hand-made, piping hot flour tortillas. Also, both other times I’d been there the owner was barefoot- which is unsanitary for a place that serves food.
I have been craving Tamales for a few months so I came to Garcia's after searching and looking up reviews and I am so happy! The tamales here are delicious! Just got more tonight and will be a regular customer. :
I went last week to try the tamales, but are ridiculous expensive, nothing special for refrigerated ones, $4 each is too much!!! Buy them from Pancho Villa or any other place fom $2-$3, and just made. Be aware that everything is expensive and don't show any prices. I realized until got home that the owner charged me $26 for 6 tamales even when I paid cash, what a scammer.
I drove all the way after working 8 hours in La Jolla, to try these beef tamales!!! They are the best ever!! Soft masa.. Savory shredded beef.. Homemade tortilla chips.. Salsa. Rice.. The whole experience was amazing. I really recommend this small market for tamales etc.
My husband just came in bought tamales for us for dinner I’m very picky on tamales but these are hands down the best I’ve had in years!! The guy at the register was super friendly! We will definitely be back
Tamales! Love the tamales. Many types to choose from. And the best masa to make your own. It was very friendly service.
Delicious Tamales. Great service. You can’t find Tamales this good anywhere else in San Diego county. 10/10 taste.
Opens at 10am, not 7 am. This is a new schedule. We come here to get the masa, and other necessary ingredients for making tamales. You can also find some good salsas here. We’ve been coming here for years, they always have what we need. When I’m here I make sure to grab a variety of candy and ice cream, it’s always a treat.
I'd come here for several years until a few years ago a man who I believe is the owner had asked me if I wanted to try a tamale for free. I took a few bites & asked for 1 to purchase. Went to pay for all my items & I noticed he charged me for the "Free" tamale. I said "you accidentally charged me for the free tamale" he said " It was only free if I didn't like it" I felt this was wrong & stopped shopping here. I returned a few days ago to give them another shot & although things are expensive right now the prices were absolutely ridiculous. There are no signs or prices on anything so just be aware. I will say though the tortillas, chips, salsa ect are very good.
