About

Situated atop a small hill between the Superstition Mountains and the Goldfield Mountains, the settlement of Goldfield got its start in 1892 when very rich, high grade gold ore was found in the area.

Story

Goldfield’s bustling days were quickly dashed when the vein of gold ore started to play out and the grade of the ore dropped even more. Just five years after it began, the town found itself quickly dying. The miners moved on, the post office was discontinued on November 2, 1898, and Goldfield became a ghost town.

Today, Goldfield is filled with authentic looking buildings, includes underground mine tours, and the only narrow gauge railroad in operation in Arizona. Numerous shops and buildings include a brothel, bakery, leather works, a jail, livery, and more. The authentic looking street is filled with people in period costume, horses and wagons, and sometimes authentic gunfighter presentations

Had a fun day exploring the town. Train ride was a great introduction to the town and surrounding area and all the history. The engineer was pretty amusing. There was no one dressed in period clothing when we were there on a Sunday. No shoot-out gun fights either, disappointing. Wasn't anyone around to talk about life in the town. It would have been cool if when the engineer blew the whistle near the bordello --girls actually came out and waved. Woman running the panning had an attitude. Brusque.

Even though I've lived in Arizona since 1993 I still enjoy taking family and friends out to Goldfield so they can hear about a little history and have a spectacular view of the Superstition Mountains while there. Oh and I have I mentioned... The cute little shops I have? Don't forget about the saloon... The most tender chicken I have ever eaten in my life! Their steaks are really good too.

My family and I had a great time! All of the surroundings are authentic looking and great for photos. Most of the shops close down early though. The ice cream had some seriously tasty flavors & the best homemade waffle cones!

Great place to visit for a few hours. They have places to eat, stores selling various things, specialty items and souvenirs. They also offer a train ride around the area and a tour of an old gold mine. They also have a museum you can go through and even an old cemetery that was interesting to walk through for historic information. I highly recommend this place for a good family place to visit!

It was my first time here and we stopped for lunch at Minors grill and ice cream parlor.... amazing! Best burger I've had in a lot time and great prices! We brought our dog and sat outside with him. They gave us water and we got a little bowl of vanilla ice cream for the spoiled pup. Would definitely recommend to all my friends.
